Sundays can be tricky when betting in the MLB as it can serve as a good rest day for certain teams. However, those variables can also frustrate oddsmakers and provide advantageous opportunities. It’s also the day we get the single, primetime Sunday night baseball game. This week features the Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres. Along with this same game parlay, be sure to check out our thoughts on the side and total.

Padres -1.5 run line (+145)

Over 7.5 alt. total (-125)

Jake Cronenworth to record an RBI (+165)

Manny Machado over 1.5 total bases (+105)

Parlay odds: +850

Let’s take a closer look at each leg of our 8.5/1 same game parlay:

Padres -1.5 (+145)

San Diego will be taking on Bryce Elder, who has been on a fast track to the majors. However, this is a primetime Sunday night baseball game, a type of game which he’s never experienced, and the bright lights may prove to get him rattled. The Padres have lost the last 2 games of this series, but also smacked the Braves 12-1 in game 1. With Yu Darvish on the mound, they should be able to get the series split tonight. Darvish can be shaky at times as well, but he has a history of pitching well against the Braves. He’s allowed Atlanta to hit just .162 and has recorded 27 strikeouts out of 80 batters faced. Expect him to bounce back from a rough last start and help lead San Diego to a multiple-run victory.

Over 7.5 alternate total (-125)

This was the original total at which the game opened before it was bet up to 8. While Darvish may be hot against the Braves, his last game against the Giants proved that he can still be hit. That should have Matt Olson and company contributing a couple of runs to the total, while San Diego still maintains a lead. The Padres have already put up 12 runs on the Braves, and if they can get to Elder early, they could light up the scoreboard again. It’s now the 4th game of the series and reliever arms are getting used up. If San Diego can get to the Braves’ bullpen early, that should help get over this total.

Jake Cronenworth to record an RBI (+165)

Even without Fernando Tatis Jr. in the lineup, Jake Cronenworth still has opportunities to drive in runs. Batting clean-up, he has Manny Machado and Trent Grisham in front of him to drive in to the plate. In their 12-1 victory, he was just about the only batter in the heart of the lineup without an RBI. After a 2021 season of posting 151 hits, he’ll be eager to put those to use against the defending champions.

Manny Machado over 1.5 total bases (+105)

With Machado having more RBI than Cronenworth in 2021, it may seem counterintuitive to have their props flipped. However, it is important to note that Machado was batting with Tatis Jr. ahead of him in the lineup. With that no longer being the case, Machado’s focus has shifted to getting on base for the likes of Cronenworth and Eric Hosmer to drive him home. He also recorded nearly the same amount of doubles as Cronenworth last season with 31. Keep in mind that total base props work in terms of bases gained from hits. Therefore, extra-base hits instantly cash in this prop without needing multiple hits. Look for Manny to increase that on-base percentage to help Cronenworth get his RBI.
