Here at Pickswise we have started 18-4 on our NRFI/YRFI bets, including a 16-2 run in our last 18. With more than a dozen MLB games taking place each day, one of the quickest bets you can make is if a run will be scored in the first inning. There is value to be had and this market has become very popular over time. If you don’t like sweating out your bets for 3 hours, this one will only take about 15 minutes.

There are 2 NRFI/YRFI bets I like on Saturday, so let’s get right into it.

Detroit Tigers vs Cleveland Guardians: NRFI (-110)

A sneaky good pitching matchup on Saturday features the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians. Michael Pineda gets the ball for Detroit, while Cal Quantrill will start for Cleveland. Neither pitcher will blow you away with season-long stats, but they both tend to get off to fast starts. In fact, Pineda has yet to surrender a first-inning run through 8 outings this season. On the other side, Quantrill has allowed a first-inning run in just 2 of his last 8 appearances.

Betting against the Tigers to score runs has been a profitable endeavor in 2022. Detroit’s offense has been one of the worst in baseball all season long, and that shouldn’t change on Saturday. For the visitors, Pineda acquitted himself well in his previous outing against the Guardians this season. Expect that momentum to continue into the first inning of this one. I like backing the NRFI in Cleveland.

Chicago White Sox vs Minnesota Twins: YRFI (-110)

While the previous contest was about the strengths of each pitcher, I think plenty of runs will be scored in this AL Central matchup. Lance Lynn is getting the start for the White Sox; his 2022 campaign has not been one to remember. Since starting his season in June after returning from injury, Lynn has pitched to a 6.97 ERA while surrendering 24 runs in 31.0 IP. He will be facing the top of the Twins’ lineup to start the game, and that includes Luis Arraez — who is 6-of-17 lifetime off Lynn with multiple extra-base hits. If the Twins’ leadoff hitter is able to get on base, the White Sox starter could be in for some early trouble against Carlos Correa or Byron Buxton.

While Lynn has allowed a first-inning run in 4 of his 6 starts, the same can’t be said of Dylan Bundy. However, Tim Anderson and Jose Abreu all have strong career numbers against Bundy. Even if Lynn doesn’t surrender a run, the White Sox could absolutely take an early lead in this one. Therefore I like backing the YRFI in Minnesota.
