I have great news people. Before I looked at the lines for today, I brought up my calendar and I actually counted how many more Saturdays we have until college football season. The magic number is six. Six more Saturdays until we are up to our eyeballs in college football chaos. So what do we do until that special Saturday six weeks from now? I’ll tell you: we bet same game MLB parlays. We can start today with the Cleveland Indians and Oakland Athletics at 4:07 pm ET on FS1. We all need something to do on a summer Saturday afternoon; why not get a little action? It makes sense.
Let’s take a look at the best options for this showdown and don’t forget to check out our full game preview for picks on the side and total. You can also follow me on Twitter for any other bets I might throw out throughout the day.
Oakland Athletics -2.5 (+168)
Seth Brown to hit a home run (+500)
Parlay odds: +1006
Oakland Athletics -2.5 (+168)
This boils down to the fact that I think Cal Quantril could get pounded today. In his last four starts he’s given up at least three earned runs in all of them. He let the Minnesota Twins hang six on the board against him. He should give the Indians 90+ pitches today but he doesn’t strike anyone out and he will probably walk at least two guys. The Athletics are coming into this one with a .859 OPS in their last two games so they are in good form to see a guy like Quantril. On the flip side, the Athletics are sending Frankie Montas to the hill and he’s only given up 12 hits over his last 17.1 innings pitched. This could easily be a 7-2 type of game.
Seth Brown to hit a home run (+500)
Okay, so this is crazy. I know; I get it. But the only Proverb says, “you can’t win if you don’t bet.” That’s just how the world works. The fun part of this one is that you could easily switch Brown out of this and put in Sean Murphy. They both have the same odds and they both hit dingers. Over their last three games, only one team in MLB has hit more dongs than the Athletics. They mash taters like it’s their job and I’m here for it. If I had to guess, I would say Quantril gives up at least two dingers today. Brown has nine home runs in only 160 at bats against right-handed pitchers so far this season so all it will take is one mistake by Quantril. Just imagine how good it will feel when Brown puts one 20 rows up in the right field seats during the second inning. I can’t wait.
