Welcome to another weekend in Major League Baseball! It’s a special Saturday since the Phillies and Mets are taking the diamond across the pond in London as part of the MLB Global Series. I’ve taken a look at every game on the slate and have created a +824 parlay that can be made at DraftKings Sportsbook.
Nationals ML (+120)
Dodgers ML (+105)
Guardians -1.5 (+105)
Parlay odds: +824
Washington Nationals ML (+120) over Atlanta Braves
Charlie Morton has made 11 starts, and by far his worst outing was against the Washington Nationals. Just two weeks ago, Morton was shelled for 12 hits and 8 runs in just 5.2 innings by the Nats. It’s important to note that the outing came in Atlanta, and today’s game is in Washington D.C. Opposing the veteran is the rising star MacKenzie Gore, who is finally living up to his potential. The lefty was a key piece in the Juan Soto trade a few years ago, and although it’s taken a bit, he’s been phenomenal this season. Plus, one of his best starts came against the Braves as he limited them to 1 earned run and 6 hits along with 10 strikeouts in 5.1 innings. It’s surprising to see the Nats at plus odds, so I’ll take it and run.
Los Angeles Dodgers ML (+105) over New York Yankees
You’ll probably be able to count the amount of times the Dodgers are underdogs this season on one hand. Los Angeles is a World Series contender and has one of the best lineups that baseball has ever seen. Last night’s series opener was a long and tiring game as it took 11 innings to decide a winner, so both teams exhausted their bullpen. In the end, the Dodgers were able to sneak by with a win and are now labeled as the underdogs in the second game of the series since Nestor Cortes is on the mound. Cortes has been fabulous on his home mound in 2024, but this will be his toughest task so far. The Dodgers rank 1st in on-base percentage, OPS, and wRC+ against left-handed pitching this year. At plus odds, it’s hard to ignore Los Angeles.
Cleveland Guardians -1.5 (+105) over Miami Marlins
Ben Lively has been a pleasant surprise for the Guardians this season. He was signed to be a back-end starter, but he’s become one of the most reliable arms in the rotation. In 9 starts, Lively owns a 5-2 record with a 2.84 ERA and 23.3% strikeout rate. The right-hander won’t blow his fastball by hitters, but he does get a lot of weak contact and swings and misses. He’s allowed 2 runs or less in 7 of his 9 starts and has completed at least 5 innings in 8 of his 9 starts. The bottom line is I’m very high on Lively. Opposing Lively is the young right-hander Roddery Munoz, who was just rocked for 6 runs, 7 hits, and 4 home runs against the Dodgers. While the Guardians might not have Mookie Betts or Shohei Ohtani at the top of the order, they do have Jose Ramirez and Josh Naylor who have been excellent at producing runs. Since Cleveland gets all 9 at-bats, I’m confident backing them by the run line.
