On the penultimate day of the regular season, the AL West, AL wild card, and NL wild-card races still need to be decided. That makes for an intense day of baseball. Even with several teams out of it and nothing to play for, there is still plenty of value on the board. If you root for a team that has been eliminated, today’s slate gives you a rooting interest if you want to make a wager or two.

Reds -1.5 & game total over 9.5 (+290)
The Reds got the job done in a big way on Friday night in a game they really needed to win, beating the Cardinals 19-2. Cincinnati is playing until the clock hits 0:00. The Cardinals have lost 8 of their last 10 games and just want to get to their tee times next week. The Reds are the better team in better form and should roll again.
The Reds hit the over themselves and then some last night. They have a good to produce runs again as they will face Cardinals starter Drew Rom. He is a youngster the Cardinals have thrown into the fire and he just has not figured it out yet at the major-league level. In 7 starts, Rom has allowed 26 earned runs in 29.1 innings pitched for a 7.98 ERA. Cincinnati should be able to contribute heavily to the over. The St. Louis offense is at least respectable enough to contribute a couple runs should they even be needed.

Marlins ML & game total under 9.5 (+190)
The Marlins have played fantastic baseball lately. They can clinch their playoff spot with a win today, which gives them all the motivation they need to come out with urgency. Friday’s win over Pittsburgh gave Miami a 4th win in 5 head-to-head matchups this season. The Marlins are the far better team, they are in better form and they have incentive to win this game. They should take care of business just fine to lock in their playoff spot.
Friday’s 4-3 final was the 5th under in the Marlins’ last 6 games. The under has also hit in 4 of the Pirates’ last 5 games, in 8 of their last 9 at home, and in 4 of their last 5 against Miami. Pittsburgh struggles to produce runs, which is a good start toward a low total. Lately, the Pirates have done a good job minimizing damage as well. Miami’s recent success has been by way of low-scoring wins, so the recent trends and the make-up of these teams gives the under appeal.
