The National League Division Series between the division rival San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers is all tied up at 1-1 heading into Game 3 on Monday in L.A. Let’s take a look at the best same game parlay option for Giants-Dodgers, and be sure to also check out our full game preview for picks on the side and total.
Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (-108)
Justin Turner to record an RBI (+155)
Max Scherzer Under 7.5 strikeouts (-106)
Part of the value in same game parlays, of course, is that all of its components can be correlated if you so choose. That is some of the plan here, as Justin Turner recording at least one RBI would obviously go well with a Los Angeles win. At the same time, plays that aren’t correlated drive up the overall payout of the parlay. That is the case with betting on Max Scherzer to be held in check in the strikeout department. But even if Scherzer’s Ks are limited, there is no reason why the Dodgers can’t take care of business. Let’s break down each of the three legs one by one.
Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (-108)
San Francisco won Game 1 4-0, but Los Angeles rebounded with a statement 9-2 victory in Game 2 to tie the series. In Game 3 the Giants will send Alex Wood to the mound. Wood was excellent in 2021 with a 3.83 ERA, 3.87 xERA, and a 3.48 FIP. However, he was less than stellar when pitching away from Oracle Park—delivering a 4.00 FIP and a 1.40 FIP across 55.2 innings of work on the road this year. He allowed an abundance of hard contact, which could be problematic against a strong Los Angeles lineup. Wood could struggle in Game 3 against a Dodgers offense that ranked 9th in OPS and 3rd in ISO against left-handed pitching during the regular season. Meanwhile, in 11 outings after the trade deadline Scherzer was nearly unhittable with a 1.98 ERA and a 1.95 FIP. Although the price isn’t great, the Dodgers are justifiably huge favorites in this one. They boast a tremendous starting pitching advantage, a better bullpen, and an equally dangerous offensive attack.
Justin Turner to record an RBI (+155)
There is really no need to complicate matters by getting into some kind of scientific formula about why Turner will drive in a run on Monday. It’s simple: batting ahead of him in the lineup are Mookie Betts, Corey Seager, and Trae Turner. It doesn not get any better than that 1-2-3 in Major League Baseball. Obviously that doesn’t automatically mean Turner will have an RBI in every single game, but he is always put in a good position. The 36-year-old third baseman didn’t even need any help in the wild-card game against St. Louis, as he launched a solo homer to tie the game in what was an eventual 3-1 L.A. victory. It should also be noted that Turner is 5-for-19 lifetime vs Wood with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs.
Max Scherzer Under 7.5 strikeouts (-106)
Scherzer has stayed under this number in each of his last three starts—and comfortably. He ended the regular season with 6 strikeouts and then 4 strikeouts before also recording 4 in the wild-card contest. The right-hander has not logged more than 5.1 innings in any of his last three appearances and even if he pitches well he might not get more than that on Monday. After all, we saw in the wild-card game—and have seen in the past—that manager Dave Roberts uses a short leash in the playoffs.
