We have one of the smallest slates of the Major League Baseball season on Monday, with only three games on the docket. Most teams are traveling to begin new series on Tuesday, but that isn’t the case for the Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres. They begin a three-game set on Monday night, which headlines the MLB action on ESPN. Needless to say, this showdown is getting the same game parlay treatment it deserves. Let’s take a look at the best such option for Monday’s marquee attraction, and be sure to check out our full game preview for picks on the side and total.
Padres ML (-124)
Fernando Tatis Jr. to record 2+ hits (+310)
Adbert Alzolay Over 6.5 strikeouts (+120)
Parlay odds: +1064
Part of the value in same game parlays, of course, is that all of its components can be correlated if you so choose. That is some of the plan here, as Fernando Tatis Jr. getting a couple of hits obviously goes well with a San Diego win. At the same time, plays that aren’t correlated drive up the overall payout of the parlay. That is the case with betting on Chicago starter Adbert Alzolay to mow down opposing batters left and right. But even if he does, the Padres can still take care of business. Let’s break down each of the three legs one by one.
Padres ML (-126)
The Cubs won on Sunday but had previously lost three in a row to San Francisco. Now they remain on the West Coast to face another one of the National League’s Best teams. San Diego is slightly behind the Giants in the National League West after splitting their series with the Mets over the weekend. Alzolay is in fine form, but the home team is countering with left-hander Ryan Weathers and he has also looked good—especially at home. In four starts at Petco Park this season, he has given up just four runs total.

Fernando Tatis Jr. to record 2+ hits (+310)
Tatis is batting a solid .292 this season and has been better against righties than left-handers, so there should be no concern that he is going up against a right-hander in Alzolay. The 22-year-old shortstop is batting .315 at the expense of righties compared to .200 against southpaws. Tatis has hit safely in three of the last four games, including a multi-hit performance against the Mets this past Thursday.
Adbert Alzolay Over 6.5 strikeouts (+120)
Alzolay has struck out at least six batters in eight of 10 starts this year, so asking him to get to seven certainly isn’t unfair. He just faced the Padres last Wednesday and fanned seven hitters while working 5.0 innings of one-run baseball. Alzolay also surrendered only three hits and one walk. San Diego has six guys who have struck out at least 40 times in 2021, so you can expect plenty of Ks on Monday night.
