We are getting the Major League Baseball week started with a modest 8-game slate on Monday. It does pack a punch, however, that includes a crucial National League West contest between the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants. And there is also this American League East showdown featuring the Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays. Let’s take a look at the best same game parlay option for Rays-Jays, and be sure to also check out our full game preview for picks on the side and total.

Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 alternate run line (+130)

Over 9 (-114)

Alex Manoah to record 8+ strikeouts (+230)

Parlay odds: +1331

Part of the value in same game parlays, of course, is that all of its components can be correlated if you so choose. That is some of the plan here, as Alek Manoah striking out Tampa Bay batters left and right would obviously go well with a Toronto win. At the same time, plays that aren’t correlated drive up the overall payout of the parlay. That is the case with taking the over. But even if Manoah racks up a ton of Ks, we will discuss below how this game can still soar over the total. Let’s break down each of the 3 legs one by one.

Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 alternate run line (+130)

The Rays are coasting to the AL East title, to the extent that they may be taking their foot off the gas pedal just a bit. They are coming off a weekend series in which they dropped 2 of 3 games against lowly Detroit. Tampa Bay lost in extra innings on Sunday, when 5 different relievers worked a total of 6.1 innings. That isn’t exactly ideal preparation for this series against Toronto. The Blue Jays, on the other hand, are coming off a trio of absolute beatdowns at Baltimore’s expense. They should feel pretty good about their chances on Monday, and not just because of their red-hot bats. Toronto has won 8 of Manoah’s last 10 starts.

Over 9 (-114)

Toronto is second in the majors in runs scored following its onslaught against the Orioles. The Blue Jays took a Saturday double-header by scores of 11-10 and 11-2 (those were 7-inning games, too!) before humiliating the Orioles 22-7 on Sunday. Guess who is No. 1 in all of baseball in scoring … the Rays! They have crossed the plate at least 5 times in 7 of their last 9 outings. But it’s Toronto has me really liking the over.

Alex Manoah to record 8+ strikeouts (+230)

As the above picks suggest, I expect Toronto to do most of the work in taking this game over the total. As such, Manoah can turn in a strong performance, work at least 7.0 innings, keep the Rays’ offense in check, and see all of these legs cash. The right-hander has faced Tampa Bay twice this season and has recorded 19 strikeouts in only 10.2 innings. He fanned 9 guys in a mere 3.2 innings on July 9. When Manoah is on his game, he can strike out tons of hitters in a short amount of time. The Rays know that better than anyone, while some other teams are also familiar with that fact (the Angels struck out 11 times in 6.2 innings against him last month, for example).
