Monday is frequently travel time for more than a few teams in Major League Baseball, but we still have a 13-game slate to work with as a new week on the diamonds gets started. Today’s schedule is headlined by a showdown between the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets on ESPN. Let’s take a look at the best same game parlay option for Monday’s nationally televised attraction, and be sure to check out our full game preview for picks on the side and total.

Cubs ML (+106)

David Peterson under 5.5 strikeouts (-132)

Patrick Wisdom to hit a home run (+470)

Parlay odds: +1218

Part of the value in same game parlays, of course, is that all of its components can be correlated if you so choose. That is the entire plan here, as Patrick Wisdom going yard (again!) obviously goes well with a Chicago win. So too does taking the under on the strikeout total for New York starter David Peterson. Let’s break down each of the three legs one by one.

Chicago Cubs ML (+106)

The surging Cubs are riding a five-game winning streak. With the Mets having won five of their last seven, something will have to give on Monday. Chicago is sending veteran right-hander Jake Arrieta to the mound, and although he hasn’t been great in 2021 there are reasons to think he can be successful against New York. For one, the Mets have been mediocre at best against right-handed pitching this year. They faced Arrieta on April 20 and managed only one run on three hits in 5.0 innings during a 3-1 Cubs victory. New York is countering with left-hander David Peterson, who is saddled with a disastrous 6.32 ERA in 11 starts this season. He also has a 1.51 WHIP and a bloated 10.1 percent walk rate. Advantage: Arrieta and the Cubs.

Javier Baez and Eric Sogard of the Chicago Cubs

David Peterson under 5.5 strikeouts (-132)

I’m happy to fade the Mets with Peterson on the mound and I’m even happier to fade Peterson himself. He has made three consecutive starts without recording more than three strikeouts. Through two appearances in June, the 25-year-old has surrendered nine runs on 11 hits and four walks to go along with four strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work. It has been a terrible stretch for Peterson, and a red-hot Chicago lineup will likely oust him from the game in the early stages on Monday. It’s hard to see the southpaw working long enough to reach the six-strikeout mark.

Patrick Wisdom to hit a home run (+470)

Wisdom is growing in stature for the Cubs before their eyes. Still qualifying as a rookie despite being 29 years old, Wisdom is batting .327 with eight home runs and 12 RBIs in 52 at-bats. In the last 13 games he has homered seven times. Facing a lefty will only help, because the third baseman is batting .350 against such pitchers in 2021.
