It’s travel time for more than a few teams in Major League Baseball, but we still have a decent 10-game slate on Thursday. There are two afternoon contests before the clubs involved hit the road for new series, while eight games are taking place at night. One of those night games pits the Detroit Tigers against the Los Angeles Angels, with Shohei Ohtani taking the mound for Los Angeles.
Let’s take a look at the best same game parlay option for Tigers-Angels, but make sure you also read our picks on the side and total for each of today’s matchups.
Angels -2.5 alternate run line (+155)
Shohei Ohtani Over 7.5 strikeouts (-116)
Shohei Ohtani to hit a home run (+230)
Parlay odds: +1097
Part of the value in same game parlays, of course, is that all of its components can be correlated if you so choose. That is the entire plan here, as Ohtani going yard while also mowing down opposing batters left and right obviously goes well with a Los Angeles win. Let’s break down each of the three legs one by one.
Angels -2.5 alternate run line (+155)
The Angels are once again mediocre this year, even though they have plenty of star power in the form of Ohtani and Mike Trout. Fortunately for L.A., the Tigers are worse—a lot worse, in fact. Detroit is 29-39 and its surprising three-game winning streak will likely come to an end with Matt Manning on the mound. Due to injuries, Manning has been called up to make is major-league debut on Thursday. The 23-year-old got the call despite being saddled with an 8.07 ERA through 32.1 innings with Triple-A Toledo. Matt Manning vs. Shohei Ohtani… Talk about a mismatch!
Shohei Ohtani Over 7.5 strikeouts (-116)
In his last two starts, Ohtani has struck out at least eight batters (including 10 on June 4) despite not working more than 6.0 innings. It should be noted that he was facing the Mariners and Diamondbacks, but the Tigers’ lineup is similarly woeful. In fact, Detroit has struck out the second-most times in Major League Baseball. In the last seven days only two clubs have fanned more than the Tigers. Ohtani should be in line for an effective and therefore prolonged start. He may even be able to work 7.0 innings, which would surely send his strikeout total flying over this 6.5 number. In 47.1 innings during this 2021 campaign, the 6’4’’, 210-pounder has recorded 68 strikeouts.
Shohei Ohtani to hit a home run (+230)
Rarely do you see a baseball player single-handedly take over a game in the same way that a basketball superstar can (see Kevin Durant on Tuesday, for example). However, Ohtani is just that good. When he is on the mound, the 26-year-old from Japan can dominate with both his arm and his bat. At the plate, Ohtani is batting .271 with 19 home runs and 47 RBIs. He has homered in each of the last two games.
