We have a nice mix of afternoon games and night games in Major League Baseball, which is nothing new for a Wednesday since some teams are wrapping up series embarking on the road to begin new ones. One of the late games pits the visiting New York Yankees against the Houston Astros. Let’s take a look at the best same game parlay option for Yankees-Astros, and be sure to check out our full game preview for picks on the side and total.
Yankees ML (-108)
Domingo German Over 5.5 strikeouts (+120)
Aaron Judge to hit a home run (+280)
Part of the value in same game parlays, of course, is that all of its components can be correlated if you so choose. That is the entire plan here, as Domingo German mowing down a handful of hitters and Aaron Judge going deep would obviously go well with a New York win. Let’s break down each of the three legs one by one.
Yankees ML (-108)
It is true that Seattle left-hander Yusei Kikuchi has been pitching well of late, but he is still walking too many betters. Kikuchi has issued 11 free passes in his last four outings, and that is something New York can exploit. The Yankees have walked the second-most times in Major League Baseball, and everyone knows how dangerous they can be with men on base. In Tuesday’s contest, the Bronx Bombers jumped all over the Mariners early and often. Giancarlo Stanton belted a three-run homer in the first inning en route to a 12-1 blowout. Meanwhile, the visitors are sending Domingo German to the mound. German relies heavily on his curveball and the Mariners rank at the bottom of the league in OPS against curveballs.
Domingo German Over 5.5 strikeouts (+120)
As mentioned above, this matchup sets up German nicely for success. The right-hander has not been working especially deep into games of late, but that should chance against a Seattle team that is two runs away from being tied for last in the American League in that department. If German can just log 6.0 innings or so, he can definitely reach this quota. In a stretch from late April through early June, the 28-year-old made eight consecutive starts with at least five strikeouts—including five with six Ks. There is no reason why he can’t regain that form.
Aaron Judge to hit a home run (+280)
Judge did not get in on the action last night, but he should join the party tonight. He has homered in four of his last 10 games, so there is good value on this prop at +280. Plus, it helps that Kikuchi is a lefty. Judge has homered seven times in 89 at-bats against southpaws in 2021 compared to 12 times in 202 at-bats versus right-handers. In 2019 (the previous full season), he batted .343 at lefties’ expense compared to just .247 vs. righties.
