MLB Playoffs Seattle Mariners vs Houston Astros Game 2 predictions: Same Game Parlay at +446 odds

Houston Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez (44) celebrates after after hitting a walk-off three-run home run against the Seattle Mariners during the ninth inning in game one of the ALDS for the 2022 MLB Playoffs at Minute Maid Park.

It was an eventful Game 1 between the Seattle Mariners and the Houston Astros that ended with Yordan Alvarez hitting a 3-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the 9th. Seattle jumped out to a quick lead against Justin Verlander, but Houston clawed their way back into the game and Alvarez completed the comeback. For Game 2 of the series, Luis Castillo will be on the mound for Seattle and he will be opposed by Houston’s Framber Valdez. We have a three-leg +446 Same Game Parlay for Thursday’s matchup, so let’s dive right in!

Parlay odds: +446

Let’s take a closer look at each leg of our same game parlay.

Seattle Mariners +2.5 over Houston Astros (-320)

Before the Mariners had a complete meltdown in the second half of Game 1, Seattle had looked good. Their offense had an excellent approach at the plate and forced Justin Verlander out of the game after just 4 innings. However, their bullpen was shaky, and putting in Robbie Ray to face Yordan Alvarez was just mind-boggling. Now they have the chance to avenge their terrible loss with Luis Castillo on the mound in Game 2. Castillo was brilliant in the Wild Card series as he threw 7 shutout innings and allowed just 6 hits to a powerful Blue Jays lineup.

This will be his first start against the Astros this season since he was acquired by Seattle so late in the season, and that gives him a slight advantage since Houston hasn’t seen him yet. The Mariners offense will have the tough task of scoring against Framber Valdez, but even if it’s just a run or two, it should be enough for the Mariners to comfortably cover the +2.5 run line.

Under 8.5 runs (-245)

Game 1 of the series finished with 15 runs, but we should see a much lower-scoring game on Thursday. Both Castillo and Valdez are ground-ball pitchers, which should take away the home run threats from both teams, and since the American League had the day off on Wednesday, their bullpens had the day to recover. Since Verlander didn’t last long and the Mariners’ relievers continued to struggle, both managers had to use a few more relievers than they would have liked. That made the day off on Wednesday even more important since every arm should once again be fresh.

Castillo is riding high after his dominant performance in the Wild Card, and Valdez is the freshest he’s been since the all-star break, so the under 8.5 looks to be a great bet.

Yordan Alvarez 2+ bases (+125)

Yordan Alvarez gave the Astros the 1-0 lead in the series with a 3-run walk-off home run in Game 1. The ball traveled 438 feet and landed in the second deck of Minute Maid Park, so it was the definition of a no-doubter. Alvarez finished with 7 total bases in the game as he nearly hit the cycle since he finished with a single, double and the home run. In his last 7 games, Alvarez has been tearing the cover off the ball as he hit .375 with a .583 slugging percentage. He will likely face Castillo for his first 2 at-bats, and in his career against the right-hander, he is 1-for-3 with a single.

His next 2 at-bats will likely come against the Seattle bullpen, and whether it’s Andrés Muñoz or Paul Sewald, Alvarez can complete this leg of the parlay with one swing of the bat.
