MLB Playoffs same game parlay (+736 odds): Boston Red Sox vs Houston Astros

Xander Bogaerts Red Sox

The Houston Astros took Game 1 of the ALDS last night by a score of 5-4 against the Boston Red Sox. Game 2 is slated for 4:20pm ET this afternoon, and it is sure to be a doozy. This calls for a same game parlay. I hit my last same game parlay at +849 odds for Game 5 between the Dodgers and Giants, and I am back for more. Before I get to today’s action, be sure to check out our full game previews for both playoff games today. You can also follow Pickswise on Twitter. While you’re at it, feel free to follow my personal Twitter for added plays if you would like.

Now let’s have a Saturday.

Red Sox -1.5 (+164)

Enrique Hernandez 2+ total bases (+120)

JD Martinez 2+ total bases (+115)

Parlay odds: +736

Head on over to FanDuel Sportsbook to find this parlay paying out north of 7/1 odds.  Let’s break down each leg one by one:

Red Sox -1.5 (+164)

Despite last night’s tough loss, the Red Sox should feel good about their chances today. In their 5 postseason games, Boston’s batting average is .328 with a .919 OPS. Along with their offensive prowess, Boston will have Nathan Eovaldi on the mound. He posted a 3.75 ERA with a 3.39 xERA this season, and he was excellent in the ALDS against the Rays. He held Tampa Bay to a .179 batting average in 10.1 innings.

Luis Garcia is on the mound for the home team. One of his biggest weaknesses is his inability to get ground balls. Only 39.2% of balls put in play against him are on the ground, while 29.8% are fly balls and 22.5% are line drives. That is a bit concerning going up against a powerful Red Sox lineup in a very hitter-friendly park.

Enrique Hernandez 2+ total bases (+120)

Enrique Hernandez is on another planet right now. Hernandez is 14-for-28 (.500) through 6 postseason games, and he has 13 hits over his last 4 games. That is absurd. He put together a 4-for-5 performance with 2 home runs in last night’s game, and I don’t know about you, but I would not want to be facing this guy right now. Even his outs have been productive, as he drove in the game-winning run in Game 4 of the ALDS with a walk-off sac fly. Hernandez is no stranger to October baseball, and a solid mixture of experience and confidence goes a long way at this time of year.

Garcia allowed 5 hits and 5 earned runs in just 2.2 innings in his lone postseason appearance this season. The Red Sox have a very potent lineup, and Hernandez is a big part of that equation. With the way he is seeing the ball right now, look for Hernandez to keep things rolling in Game 2.

JD Martinez 2+ total bases (+115)

As with any same game parlay, taking 3 legs that correlate well with one another can be beneficial. That is exactly what we are doing here. JD Martinez is not as hot as Hernandez, but he is 7-for-18 (.389) so far this postseason. He went 0-for-3 with a walk last night, and it was his first hitless game in 4 playoff contests. He is more than capable of bouncing back tonight. Not only can he spray the ball to all fields, but he is very familiar with Minute Maid Park. Martinez spent his first 3 big-league seasons in Houston. As previously mentioned, Garcia struggled in the ALDS against the White Sox, and Martinez and company should be able to have a solid day at the plate.
