Following the lead of other major sports leagues, MLB announced yesterday that they’ll be suspending operations due to the coronavirus pandemic. Remaining Spring Training games have been canceled outright, and the regular season has been delayed for at least two weeks (in reality, it’s been suspended indefinitely).
Predictably, some of our favorite players reacted to the decision on Twitter. We’ve compiled some of our favorite Twitter comments below.
For starters, future Hall of Famer Mike Trout echoed many professional athletes when he sent his well wishes to those around the world:
We’re all at a spot right now that won’t last forever. To those who share the love of baseball, sport, life… we will all be back together soon. @JessTara and I urge everyone to take precautions to stay healthy 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Some players, including pitchers Steve Cishek and Justin Anderson, were left speechless by the move:
Well then…

This is truly wild 🤯

Not shockingly, ultra-competitor Trevor Bauer suggested a fully-mic’d-up, pickup baseball game:
To any @MLB or @MiLB players in AZ who want in on this sandlot game, please respond to this tweet and @Watch_Momentum will organize with you. All pitchers and hitters will be micd up. Mandatory. Open to any other rule suggestions. Let me know!

Pitcher Daniel Norris had the same thoughts as many of us:
I feel like my favorite toy just got taken away.

On a much more serious note, prayers up to everyone. Baseball is a beautiful treasure but it doesn’t compare to the health and well being of humanity. jklivin https://t.co/IVb6T7kRgH

Archie Bradley wasn’t even all that focused on MLB’s suspension, instead focusing his thoughts on the NCAA:
Crazy 24-48 hours. Lot’s of changes in pro sports, but gotta say The fact that student athletes are going to miss out on championship tournaments and games is really a bummer. Those are games and memories they can never get back! Smh. Definitely necessary. Just really sucks.

And finally, everyone’s favorite veteran, Hunter Pence, had a bit of an unorthodox solution for staying safe:
When in doubt, breathe it out. Namaste friends! pic.twitter.com/QKnXcaT2na
