With plenty of MLB games taking place each day, one of the quickest bets you can make is if a run will be scored in the first inning. There is value to be had and this market has become very popular over time. If you don’t like sweating out your bets for 3 hours, this one will take only about 15 minutes. This has been a very profitable market for our handicappers this season, so let’s keep the momentum going!

Chicago Cubs vs Pittsburgh Pirates: NRFI (-120)
For our first NRFI pick on Tuesday’s slate, I’m looking at a scoreless first inning between the Pirates and Cubs. We’ve got a solid starting pitching matchup in this NL Central clash and Marcus Stroman should set the tone early on for Chicago. Stroman has been in great form all season long, having won 6 straight starts dating back to May 19, including a quality 6-inning, 2-run outing against the Pirates at Wrigley Field last Thursday. The Pirates’ offense has struggled of late, so I wouldn’t expect them to pose much of a challenge from Stroman in this one. On the other side, Johan Oviedo has been up and down this season, but his advanced metrics do show that he’s due for a bit of positive regression in the coming starts. Let’s back NRFI at PNC Park.

New York Mets vs Houston Astros: NRFI (-130)
For our second NRFI pick on Tuesday’s card, I’m going with a quick inning in Houston between the Mets and Astros. Framber Valdez has been pitching like an ace for Houston, putting up an impressive 2.27 ERA so far this season, while ranking in the 87th percentile in walk percentage. While his hard-hit rate and exit velocity numbers are cause for concern, I’m still confident he can quickly set down a mediocre Mets lineup (15th in OPS and SLG) in the opening frame. Former Astros starter Justin Verlander will get the ball for New York and the future Hall of Famer is coming off a terrific outing against the Yankees. Verlander has dramatically lowered his ERA over his last 3 starts and I expect this good form to continue in his old ballpark.
