We are continuing the first full week of the 2023 Major League Baseball season with a full 15-game schedule on Tuesday. It includes an afternoon game between the Padres and Diamondbacks before the winless Phillies go up against the Yankees at 7:05 pm ET on TBS. The Dodgers and Rockies are wrapping up the slate at 10:10 pm ET on ESPN+.
The YRFI/NRFI market has become extremely popular in baseball betting. New York Mets vs Milwaukee Brewers: NRFI (-113)
Everything about the Mets today has to have you liking the NRFI. First, they are throwing out Max Scherzer. Although the veteran right-hander lost on Opening Day, it was a quality start (3 runs allowed in 6.0 innings) against the Marlins and he did not allow a single run in the first 5 innings. Meanwhile, New York got shut out by Milwaukee on Monday and in 2 losses this season it has scored a grand total of 1 run. Four of the Mets’ first 5 hitters in the lineup are batting .190 or worse through 5 games. Unsurprisingly, they have scored a first-inning run only once in 5 contests.
Taking the mound for the Brewers is Wade Miley, who compiled a 3.16 ERA in 9 appearances (8 starts) with the Cubs last year after pitching to a 3.37 ERA in 28 starts with Cincinnati in 2021. The southpaw should be able to get off to a hot start against a top of the Mets’ batting order that has been cold.

Los Angeles Angels vs Seattle Mariners: YRFI (+108)
You have to like the chances of at least 1 of these American League West teams scoring in the first inning. Los Angeles will be batting first and of course has Shohei Ohtani stepping up the plate in the opening frame. Right there is a potential bet cash with one swing of the bat. The sample size is small, but Mike Trout is 2-for-2 lifetime against Seattle starter Luis Castillo. Plus… he’s Mike freaking Trout. There is a great chance Ohtani will be hitting with at least 1 man on base when he steps up to the plate.
If the NRFI is still in play going into the bottom of the frame, the Mariners should be able to end its hopes of cashing. After Julio Rodriguez leads off, the M’s have Ty France and Teoscar Hernandez coming to bat. France is 5-for-14 (.357) with 3 doubles against Angels lefty Jose Suarez and Hernandez is 3-for-6 with a homer. I would take this at anything in plus money, so +108 has good value.
