The week in Major League Baseball wraps up on Sunday with a full 15-game slate. It begins with the Blue Jays hosting the Angels at 12:05 pm ET on Peacock and concludes with the Sunday Night ESPN Game of the Week between the Yankees and Orioles. From those contests and everything in between, there is plenty to work with in an effort to come up with some successful YRFI/NRFI bets.
The YRFI/NRFI market has become extremely popular in baseball betting. After all, you don’t have to sit around for 3 hours (or maybe a lot less now that games are not as long on average!) to see if your wager hits; the satisfaction (or in some cases disappointment) is immediate. It all comes down to the first inning.

Cleveland Guardians vs Chicago White Sox: YRFI (-122)
Both Cleveland and Chicago should have good chance to punch across at least 1 run in the first inning on Sunday. The game will begin with Michael Kopech of the White Sox on the mound and he is 4-9 with a 4.44 ERA and 1.42 WHIP. Kopech is saddled with a ridiculous 7.15 ERA through three July appearances, including one in which he allowed 4 runs to the Braves in the first inning. Granted, that’s the Braves, but still…
The Guardians are countering with Aaron Civale, which at first glance is good news for the visitors because he is sporting a 2.54 ERA and 1.06 ERA this season. However, the top of Chicago’s lineup absolutely owns Civale. Tim Anderson is 7-for-18 lifetime, Yoan Moncada is also 7-for-18, Luis Robert is 5-for-14 and Eloy Jimenez is 5-for-13. Those are batting averages of .389, .389, .357 and .385. Anderson has homered off Civale 3 times in 18 at-bats and Jimenez has gone deep twice in 13 ABs. Give me the YRFI.

Seattle Mariners vs Arizona Diamondbacks: NRFI (-128)
This should be a stellar pitching matchup between Seattle’s Luis Castillo and Arizona’s Merrill Kelly. Castillo comes in with a 3.02 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. The 30-year-old righty has surrendered a first-inning run in just 1 of his last 4 starts. Kelly is 9-4 with a 3.12 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. The 34-year-old right-hander recently missed a month of action, but he returned on Tuesday and promptly limited St. Louis to 1 run in 6.0 innings of work. Kelly has given up a first-inning run only once in his last 10 appearances.
Nobody in the Mariners’ lineup has more than 2 hits all time off Kelly and no one on the Diamondbacks other than Ketel Marte has more than 1 hit off Castillo. Marte is 3-for-17 in his career in this matchup, so there is no concern in that department. I’m counting on both of these pitchers to get off to fast starts.
