MLB picks Sunday 10/16: YRFI & NRFI best bet – Game 4 set to start slowly

One of the shortest-lasting bets you can make in an MLB game is if a run will be scored in the first inning. All it takes is 6 outs to glory, and one swing of the bat can make or break your bet. There is also a lot of value in these bets because the odds are usually very well-priced, and if you’re not a fan of sweating out your bets for 3 hours then this one will take only about 15 minutes to win or lose.

Let’s get right into the YRFI/NRFI bet I like for Sunday’s game.

New York Yankees vs Cleveland Guardians: NRFI (-140)

I backed the NRFI with Cal Quantrill on the mound several times in the regular season, and it was a very profitable spot. This was the same pitching matchup in Game 1, and that had a scoreless first frame. Both Quantrill and Gerrit Cole were excellent in the first inning throughout the regular season, especially Quantrill. He had a 1.69 ERA and limited opponents to a .174 batting average in 32 innings in the first inning.

Cole made 2 starts against the Guardians in the regular season and pitched a scoreless first frame both times. The ace has come out strong in the postseason as he dominated Cleveland in Game 1 of the ALDS, allowing 1 run and 4 hits in 6.1 innings. Cleveland stole a win away from the Yankees last night to take the series lead, so I expect Game 4 to be much lower-scoring, similar to the 4-1 score in Game 1 when these same pitchers battled. Game 4 should start slowly, so take the NRFI in Cleveland.
