The week in Major League Baseball continues with a full 15-game schedule on Wednesday. I’m on an absolute heater to start the year, with a 14-7-1 record so far in this best bets piece while going 3-for-4 on Same Game Parlays at +481, +632 and +439 odds. Pickswise’s MLB handicapping team on the whole is 20-7-1 on their best bets. Let’s keep it going as we get into my MLB best bets of the day! Also don’t forget to check out our MLB picks for Wednesday’s big matchups.
MLB best bet: San Francisco Giants vs Philadelphia Phillies F5 Over 3.5 (-154)
Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing
San Francisco starter Robbie Ray is off to a strong start in 2025, but the sample size is small and it’s hard to be convinced by his performances. The 33-year-old missed basically all of 2023 and a lot of 2024, so he is rusty. Despite those absences, the Phillies are quite familiar with Ray. Bryce Harper is 5-for-11 lifetime in the matchup with a home run and a double, Alec Bohm is 3-for-8 and Nick Castellanos is 2-for-4 with a homer.
As potent as Philadelphia’s lineup is, San Francisco has been hitting the ball even better during the early stages of this season. The Giants have scored 89 runs through 17 games, giving them the 5th-highest total in baseball. They now face a struggling Aaron Nola, who is 0-3 with a 5.51 ERA. Wilmer Flores is 4-for-13 with a home run off Nola and Mike Yastrzemski is 3-for-9 with a homer and a double. I anticipate both starters running into some trouble on Wednesday, so let’s back the first 5 innings over and take the bullpens out of the equation. Philly’s ‘pen is at least good on paper and San Fran’s relievers currently boast the 2nd-best ERA in the league (1.93).

MLB best bet: Los Angeles Angels ML over Texas Rangers (-124)
Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing
Patrick Corbin was an automatic fade for me – and hopefully for everyone else – when he was on the Nationals. Early returns indicate that nothing will be different in Texas. In his first start with his new team, the 35-year-old southpaw gave up 3 earned runs on 5 hits in 4.0 innings of work against the Cubs. He did not strike out a single batter and walked 2. It legitimately defies belief that Corbin is still able to find work in this profession.
Los Angeles is countering with Jose Soriano, for whom the story is much different. The 26-year-old righty 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with 18 strikeouts through 20.0 innings across 3 starts this season. It’s also worth noting that the Angels as a whole are off to a relatively encouraging 9-7 start, even sporting a winning road record (7-6). There is no reason why the visitors can’t victimize Corbin and the Rangers on Wednesday night.
