A full 15-game schedule is on the docket for Friday as another week in Major League Baseball continues. It features a couple of contests on Apple TV+, highlighted by a showdown between Seattle and Atlanta. The tail-end of the slate includes Boston visiting San Diego.

For this parlay we are going with 2 favorites on the run line and an underdog on the money line. Let’s break down each of the legs.

Braves -1.5 over Mariners (+145)
The Braves probably didn’t have Bryce Elder as their #3 starter on their 2023 bingo card, but here we are. And that will be the case for the foreseeable future, as both Max Fried and Kyle Wright are sidelined for several months. To say that Elder has stepped up to the plate – or in this case the mound – and risen to the occasion would be an understatement. The right-hander is 3-0 with a 1.94 ERA and Atlanta has won 6 of his 8 outings, including 4 by multiple runs. He now faces a Seattle squad that is under .500 at 21-22 and is coming off consecutive blowout losses to the Red Sox (9-4 and 12-3). This will be the Mariners’ seventh leg of a 9-game road trip, so there could be some wear and tear developing.
Dodgers -1.5 over Cardinals (+120)
The Dodgers came out of the gates slowly in 2023, but it is safe to say that they have restored order to the proceedings. Manager Dave Roberts’ club is a dominant 15-3 in its last 18 games; for those counting, that means the Dodgers started the season 13-13 and are now 28-16. It hardly matters who toes the rubber for this team, but when it’s Tony Gonsolin – which is the case on Friday – it is especially good news for the boys in blue. Gonsolin is sporting a 1.42 ERA and 0.95 WHIP and he has not allowed a single earned run over his past 2 appearances, which span 11.0 innings. Meanwhile, the Cardinals have been one of the biggest disappointments in baseball. They have started to heat up of late, but at 18-26 they are still dwelling in the cellar of the National League Central. Los Angeles should roll.

Marlins ML over Giants (+110)
Sandy Alcantara has not been the normal Sandy Alcantara so far this year, but the small sample size is such that it’s not time to jump off the bandwagon. In fact, it’s time to buy low with the Marlins priced as underdogs against the Giants. If there is some good news for Alcantara, it’s that he has 18 strikeouts compared to just 2 walks over his last 2 appearances. San Francisco is countering with Anthony DeSclafani, who has hit a rough patch with his last 2 starts. In 12.0 innings against Washington and Arizona he surrendered 8 earned runs on 15 hits; his team lost those games by a combined 12-3 margin. Give me Alcantara to right the ship.
