The A’s had a real chance at pulling off the upset on Friday night before ultimately blowing it in the 9th inning. It hasn’t been a smooth season for Oakland, but they’re proving to be competitive. We’re taking an interesting approach to today’s game, but it also means we need just 2 legs for this parlay to be profitable. Along with this same game parlay, be sure to check out our thoughts on the side and total for all of today’s games.

Let’s take a closer look at each leg of our same game parlay.
Athletics ML (-102)
With a giant image of Jose Ramirez’s swing, it may seem strange to have the Athletics winning this game. We’ll be threading the needle with this play, but it could pay off. Oakland has already proved it can get off to an early lead against Cleveland, as the A’s scored in the first 2 innings last night. They held that lead throughout almost the entire game before the Guardians were able to walk it off in the 9th inning.
They should be able to produce early on once again against Cleveland’s Zach Plesac and his 5.21 expected ERA. However, this is more about Frankie Montas always providing the A’s with their best opportunity to win. He’s been fantastic, specifically in his last 3 starts. He’s gone at least 6.0 innings in each, allowing just 4 earned runs, and striking out 23 batters. Paul Blackburn was able to allow Oakland’s bullpen to rest with his 8.0-inning start last night, and they shouldn’t need to work much behind Montas. He’s shut down the lineups of the Red Sox and Astros in his last 2 starts, who are superior to the Guardians’. Outside of Ramirez, it’s tough to trust many of Cleveland’s bats. That is exactly where this same game parlay gets interesting.

Jose Ramirez 2+ total bases (+100)
That’s right, we’re taking a hitting prop for a player that is not on the team that we have projected to win. While it’s a bit different, that is what provides such solid odds while needing only 2 legs to hit. As great as Montas has been this season, Ramirez has a history against him. He’s got a .643 slugging percentage against the A’s starter, including a home run.
This is still more about the season Ramirez is having in general. He’s 4th in the league with 130 total bases, and is as consistent as they come. Not only is he leading the league in RBIs, he has 15 doubles, 4 triples, and 16 home runs. Those extra-base hits are so beneficial as they cash this prop with just a single swing. He hit this prop last night with 8 total bases in a game in which the Guardians easily could have lost. That is exactly the scenario we’re calling for today, and should come through without the improbable 9th inning of Friday night.
