I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Tonight will be the 2nd game of the 2-game set that is the 2nd Subway Series of the season. We’re out to cash in for the 2nd time during the Subway Series, after we hit this same game parlay when the teams faced off at Citi Field. This was originally set to be a Jacob deGrom start for the Mets. However, manager Buck Showalter just announced last night that he was giving him some extra rest. That may feel like the Yankees are catching a break, but they’ve had quite a rough month. Along with this same game parlay, be sure to check out our MLB picks for all of today’s games.

Over 5.5 total runs (-425)

Pete Alonso to record an RBI (+105)

Francisco Lindor 2+ total bases (+115)

Parlay odds: +330

Let’s take a closer look at each leg of our same game parlay.

Over 5.5 total runs (-425)

There’s no doubt that the switch from deGrom to Taijuan Walker greatly changes the outlook on this game. What once looked like a solid spot for the Mets to sweep the Yankees again now looks like a situation where the Bronx Bombers could secure the two victories. Therefore, we’re going to attack the total, and for good reason. Walker started the first meeting between these teams, which ended with 9 total runs. Since then, he has not been himself. He went on to allow 8 runs in a single inning to begin this month, and then left his most recent start after just 2.0 innings with back spasms. That’s why he was scratched from his start on Sunday, and is now starting this game. That doesn’t provide much confidence that he will pitch well, or even much at all.

There’s just as little confidence with Yankees starter Frankie Montas. He came over from the A’s at the trade deadline, and things have not gone well. After allowing 6 runs in just 3.0 innings in his first start with the Yankees, he just allowed another 6 runs in his most recent game. Each of those matchups finished with double-digit totals, one of which was a 21-run game. It’s safe to say Montas needs more than just a change of scenery. Although the Yankees haven’t been as hot recently, they’re still the 2nd-highest scoring team in the league. With the Mets being close behind as the 4th-highest, expect plenty of runs against some shaky starters.

Pete Alonso to record an RBI (+105)

The Yankees’ Aaron Judge and Mets’ Pete Alonso have been battling for the RBI lead recently. Judge retook the lead last night, but Alonso can get it back tonight. He now has 102 on the season, 2 of which came against the Yankees. The last time these teams met, Alonso recorded an RBI in both games. Similarly, he also recorded 4 total bases in each of those games. That’s another route to take for the prop, as his 236 is the 5th-most in the National League. He was also the 6th player to reach 30 home runs, which is the 3rd-most in the NL. Along with 23 doubles, Alonso can be trusted to come through with either prop.

Francisco Lindor 2+ total bases (+115)

While Pete Alonso made himself a household name after winning back-to-back home run derbies, Francisco Lindor is having an incredible season himself. He’s arguably the best shortstop in the NL behind the Dodgers’ Trea Turner. He may not have as many hits as Turner, but his 131 have helped him rack up 219 total bases. It also has him close behind Alonso in terms of RBI with the 5th-most. Lindor is the perfect combination of consistency and power, as he has 17 doubles, 4 triples, and 21 home runs. All of that is without mentioning his history against Montas. He’s 4-for-9 against him with 2 doubles and a .667 slugging percentage, so expect a strong performance tonight.
