Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 over Tampa Bay Rays (+112)

The Philadelphia lineup has been hitting the cover off the ball lately. In September, the Phillies rank 1st in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS and wRC+. The loss of Alec Bohm has not affected the lineup production too much since the bottom half of the order has been fantastic lately. Brandon Marsh, Weston Wilson and Johan Rojas have been key to the lineup’s success since they put runners on for Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner and Bryce Harper.

Philadelphia’s opponent on Monday night will be Cole Sulser, a longtime reliever who has found a new home in Tampa Bay. To very little surprise, the Rays have turned around a struggling reliever and have made him another success story. However, he has a very small sample size. He’s made just 7 appearances and has a 4.36 ERA paired with 2.75 xERA. The one major problem that Sulser has is walks considering he owns a 13.3% walk rate in 10.1 innings. If the Phillies are patient at the plate and Cristopher Sanchez continues his impressive string of starts, this should be yet another multi-run win for Philly.

Kansas City Royals ML over New York Yankees (+150)

The Royals currently occupy the 2nd Wild Card spot with just a few weeks left in the season. The Tigers, Mariners and Red Sox are a few games back of the 3rd Wild Card spot and are starting to run out of time, so it’s critical for the Royals to not fall apart in September. Kansas City has had a good start to the month since they’ve won 4 in a row, which includes a very important sweep over the Twins. Their next series is just as important as they travel to the Big Apple and have a 3-game set against the Yankees.

Kansas City will trot out Brady Singer for the series opener as he looks for revenge against a Yankees lineup that hit him hard earlier in the season. The good news is that Singer has looked sharp in his last few starts and is taking on the New York offense that struggled in their most recent series against the Cubs. The Yankees finished with just 6 runs and 17 hits in 3 games against Chicago and a big problem has been the bottom half of their lineup. If Singer can keep the Royals competitive in the first half of the game, I’m confident that the Royals can break through against Carlos Rodon.

Baltimore Orioles ML over Boston Red Sox (+100)

The Red Sox have watched their postseason hopes slowly drift out of their hands. Boston had a 50% chance of playing baseball in October at the all-star break, but a gauntlet of a schedule in the second half has gotten the better of them. The Sox are 5 games back of the final Wild Card spot and have just a 6.6% chance of making the postseason, according to Fangraphs. To make everything worse, their next 7 games are against the Orioles and Yankees.

The series opener against the O’s tonight will feature Cade Povich and Brayan Bello, 2 rising stars in their respective rotation. Povich hasn’t had a great rookie campaign but has already faced the Sox this season and is also coming off the best start of his career. A few weeks ago in Baltimore, the lefty allowed just 2 runs and 6 hits with 6 strikeouts in 6.1 innings against Boston. And then in his most recent outing, he threw 7.1 scoreless innings and surrendered just 5 hits while punching out a career-high 10 hitters. The O’s have been the better team all year and that shouldn’t change tonight at Fenway.
