Welcome to another week in the Major League Baseball season. To start the week, we have several exciting series happening all over the country. The Mets take on the Cardinals in St. Louis, the Astros drive to Arlington to face the Rangers, the Red Sox battle the Royals in an important 3-game set and the Phillies travel to SoCal for another series with the Dodgers. Watch out — I think the dogs are going to be barking today! Let’s dive into my MLB parlay picks for Monday, August 5, while you can also see our MLB picks for each of today’s big games.

Cleveland Guardians ML over Arizona Diamondbacks (+108)

At this point in the season, it’s always worth a look when the Guardians are at plus-money odds. Cleveland has one of the best teams in baseball this season because of their efficient lineup and top-tier bullpen, and tonight, the Guardians are worth more than just a look. The Guardians are taking on Arizona’s ace Zac Gallen, who has had a rough season because of injuries. Gallen returned to the rotation at the end of June, but he hasn’t looked like his normal self in the last month. The right-hander allowed a .262 xBA with a 10% walk rate and 7 barrels in 7 starts since coming back.

Plus, it’s hard to forget his drastic home and away splits. Gallen has always had trouble pitching on the road in his young career and that could be exploited by the Guardians tonight. Since Cleveland has a rested bullpen to back Logan Allen tonight, I like taking a chance with the Guardians tonight as underdogs.

Boston Red Sox ML over Kansas City Royals (+118)

The second half of the season is going to be a gauntlet for the Red Sox. They’ve already faced the Dodgers, Yankees, Mariners and Rangers in the second half of the season and have the Royals, Astros, Rangers and Orioles in the near future. However, this series might be the most important. The Red Sox and Royals are in a dogfight for the 3rd Wild Card spot in the American League. Both teams are very similar since they have a few aces in the rotation, a young and talented lineup and a weak bullpen.

This 3-game set could give some clarity as to which team could be in the postseason, and it will be James Paxton against Brady Singer in the series opener. Although Paxton had a rough return in a Red Sox uniform last week, it should get easier tonight since the Royals struggle against left-handed pitching. Since June 1, Kansas City ranks 22nd in batting average, 28th in OPS and 28th in wRC+ against southpaws. Meanwhile, Singer’s 4.45 xERA compared to his 2.88 ERA says a lot about his luck this season. I’m taking the team with the pitching advantage in tonight’s game.

Philadelphia Phillies ML over Los Angeles Dodgers (+118)

The series of the week takes place in Southern California between two of the best teams in baseball. Just a few weeks ago, these National League powerhouses met in Philadelphia and the Phillies swept the Dodgers in 3 games. Los Angeles will be out for revenge this week, and it starts with Tyler Glasnow taking the hill for his 21st start of the year. Through 121 innings, Glasnow has a 3.50 ERA but a 2.60 xERA and a stunning 32.8% strikeout rate.

The Phillies didn’t face Glasnow when they met a few weeks ago, but they might be meeting him at the perfect time tonight. Glasnow has struggled recently since he’s allowed 15 runs, 20 hits and 3 home runs in his last 21 innings. He’s still getting plenty of swings and misses with his wicked slider and curveball, but his fastball has been getting ripped this year. Plus, Aaron Nola allowed just 1 run and 4 hits in 6 innings against the Dodgers last month. I’m taking the healthier and more dangerous team and siding with the underdogs.
