Last week was highlighted by the NFL returning, but have no fear, the MLB season is still happening! It was a busy Sunday with every single team playing, but Monday is a rest and travel day for certain teams which makes Monday’s slate rather small. There will be 9 MLB games on Monday, including a doubleheader from the Rangers-Marlins. The first game of that doubleheader is featured in today’s mega parlay, so don’t miss it!
But before we dive in, be sure to check out our MLB picks for every MLB side and total today.
Let’s get into our mega parlay for Monday and break down each of the legs one by one.
Texas Rangers ML over Miami Marlins (Game 1) (+115)
Earlier this season, I was fading Glenn Otto with every chance I could. However, the tables have turned in the second half of the season. Otto has lowered his ERA by nearly 1.50 runs from the first to the second half of the season, and a lot of that success came from August. The right-hander was 2-1 with a 2.93 ERA last month, and the Rangers were 4-1 in his 5 starts.
On offense, the Rangers will face Trevor Rogers, who was once my favorite pitcher to back last season, but he’s in the midst of a sophomore slump. He’s had a rough campaign with a 5.51 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP in 99.2 innings, and he will have the difficult task of facing a Rangers offense that ranks 8th in OPS and 9th in wRC+ versus left-handed pitching. Otto has limited opponents to a .217 batting average when he starts on the road and Rogers has struggled to contain any offense this season, so the Rangers offer excellent value as underdogs in game one of the day.

Houston Astros -1.5 over Detroit Tigers (-115)
Eduardo Rodriguez is finally back for the Tigers, but it hasn’t been the smoothest return. Rodriguez stepped away from the team for over three months, and since coming back, he has a 3.68 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. But in his last 2 starts, he’s allowed 9 runs and 11 hits including 5 home runs in 11 innings. He will face a Houston offense that is coming off a 12-4 win against the Angels on Sunday and rank 10th in OPS and 7th in wRC+ against left-handed pitching.
It will be a southpaw showdown in Detroit as Framber Valdez will get the start for Houston, and in his one start against Detroit earlier this season, he allowed 2 runs while racking up 7 strikeouts in 6 innings. Valdez was excellent in August as he went 5-0 with a 2.04 ERA, and Houston won 4 of those 5 starts by at least 2 runs. This game should be all Houston from the start.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs Arizona Diamondbacks under 8 (+125)
Ryne Nelson had a fantastic MLB debut. Last week, I bet on him and the Diamondbacks to beat the Padres, and Nelson didn’t disappoint me. He pitched 7 scoreless innings and gave up just 4 hits, no walks, and 7 strikeouts. Nelson’s success was not a mistake as he dominated a star-studded San Diego lineup as the Padres were 4-for-25 (.160) with a .184 xBA. The hard-throwing rookie has a strong repertoire because after using his fastball to get ahead of the count, he can finish the hitter off with a devastating curveball, a wipeout slider, or a disappearing changeup.
Opposing Nelson will be Tyler Anderson, who has a 2.35 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP in 57.1 innings since the all-star break, and he has allowed more than 3 runs just once since mid-July. The southpaw’s most recent outing against the Diamondbacks ended with 4 runs, and I anticipate another low-scoring affair.
