This series is a big one for both the Twins and Mariners. Minnesota is clinging to a 2.5-game lead in the AL Central while Seattle is looking to close the gap on their 5-game deficit in the AL Wildcard. Although the Twins have a division lead and the Mariners are on the outside looking in, they are not separated by much — Minnesota has just been the beneficiary of a struggling division. With each game becoming more and more important in the second half of the season, this will be a good game and series between a couple of even teams. Seattle Mariners ML over Minnesota Twins (-140)

The Mariners have played well in July to the tune of an 8-4 record this month. They avoided a sweep at the hands of the Tigers with a win yesterday. While a series loss to Detroit does not look great, this month they have series wins against Tampa Bay, Houston and San Francisco. Those are very good teams and the series wins indicate that Seattle is trending upward if they can keep playing well.

The Twins have played decent baseball themselves lately, but they have primarily beat up on the basement dwellers. Since June 23, Minnesota is 10-8 with series wins against Detroit, Baltimore, Kansas City and Oakland. The Orioles got the Twins back with a sweep last week and Atlanta also swept Minnesota during that stretch. The Mariners will not be a pushover for the Twins and Seattle has played well against better teams lately. Take Seattle to get the win to kickstart this Same Game Parlay.

Under 7.5 (-125)

Although this total is low, the starting pitching matchup gives the under appeal. Sonny Gray will start for the Twins and Logan Gilbert will start for the Mariners. Gray enters this start with a 2.89 ERA and 101 strikeouts in 99.2 innings pitched. He was roughed up in his last outing but that was his second straight start against a good Orioles team that was very familiar. Gray has been reliable all season for the Twins.

Logan Gilbert is enjoying a great stretch himself. Gilbert has allowed more than 2 runs in just 1 of his last 5 starts. Of those outings, there were 3 in which he went 7+ innings of at most 1-run allowed, including a complete game shutout a couple of weeks ago. Gilbert’s last 3 stellar outings have come against the Orioles, Giants and Astros. In Gray and Gilbert’s last 3 respective starts, the over/under record is a combined 0-5-1. The unders trend looks great to continue on Monday.

Julio Rodriguez 2+ total bases (+120)

Although a lower total looks probable, offense and run production has to come from somewhere for a winning team. Julio Rodriguez has not had a great sophomore season, but he is still one of the best hitters in Seattle’s lineup and one with which opposing pitchers always have to be careful. Rodriguez has contributed to the Mariners’ strong July with 6 multi-hit and multi-base games. If he is truly rebounding from a tough June, this is a good time to take Julio Rodriguez’s props.

With 12 games played this month, Rodriguez is showing a trend of every other game collecting a multi-hit, multi-base game. If he is seeing the ball and catching fire, there is arguably no more dangerous hitter in the Mariners’ lineup. He has done damage against good pitching staffs this month so facing a good pitcher in Sonny Gray shouldn’t affect his approach much. These +120 odds have solid value and look a great addition to this Twins vs Mariners Same Game Parlay.
