The Astros faving the Orioles gives us perhaps a bit more of a heavyweight bout than fans may have expected at the beginning of the season. Houston is the reigning World Series Champion and appears to be headed to the postseason once again. Their opponent Baltimore is atop the AL East which by the end of the season could be one of the best, if not the best, division for a season in baseball history. There are just about 50 games remaining for the regular season and fans will see all contenders try to bring their A-game down the stretch. This will be a great one to watch.

Houston Astros ML over Baltimore Orioles (-130)

Although both teams are playing great baseball right now, this is the time of year when the Astros typically dial things in a bit. This is largely the same team that just last year completely bullied their way through the regular season and finished the job by winning the World Series. For multiple members of this Astros team, it was their second ring. This team knows when to peak and this is the time of year that they typically up the ante.

The Astros are 5-2 in their last 7 games and they appear to have a starting pitching advantage tonight. Framber Valdez will start for the Astros for the first time since he hurled a no-hitter last week. That performance was badly needed as it snapped a rough 3-start stretch. Now Valdez is a good start away from having a sub-3 ERA. Valdez has proven to be the steady performer the Astros need this time of year.

Under 8.5 (-120)

The under has been rolling for the Astros lately. The total has gone under in 4 of Houston’s last 6 games and in 7 of their last 10 games on the road. Those numbers contribute to an over-under record on the season of 55-57-1 for the Astros, including 26-31 on the road. The Astros have a good pitching staff which always brings solid potential for a low total. Tonight looks to bring more of the same.

The Orioles are in strong form overall as a team. Often when a couple of good teams who also happen to be in good form go head to head, there is little margin for error. In such games, lower totals are typically more common. Valdez and the Astros’ bullpen should do their part in keeping the total low. That just leaves the Orioles’ pitching staff to have to match it if they are going to stay in this game.

Kyle Tucker 2+ total bases (+115)

Kyle Tucker is coming off his best month of the season. In July, he hit 7 home runs, collected 23 RBIs and hit .359 with an .1119 OPS and 62 total bases. If not for potentially the best individual season in baseball history by Shohei Ohtani, Kyle Tucker would be firmly in the MVP race. As mentioned, this Astros team knows when and how to turn it on and peak at the right time of the calendar. Tucker is a key piece of that stretch run.

It has gotten to the point where Tucker is almost always involved for any offense the Astros are able to generate. He leads the team in batting average, RBIs, stolen bases, OBP, slugging, OPS, hits and doubles. In potential playoff preview games, look for the reliable players to produce. Kyle Tucker most certainly qualifies as a reliable player.
