The MLB season is approaching the home stretch after the trade deadline, and it’s been long enough for us to more or less know where things stand. We have a big slate on Friday, and we’ll be treated to the start of the Freeway Series here as the Los Angeles Dodgers host the Los Angeles Angels.
What better way to celebrate this rivalry game than by betting a late night same game parlay? We also have thoughts on the side and total, which you can find out in our full game preview.
Los Angeles Dodgers -2.5 (+154)
Justin Upton to record 2+ hits (+300)
Parlay odds: +1211
We’ve got a simple two-leg parlay here, one which pays out just north of 12/1 with FanDuel Sportsbook. I just cashed a mega parlay at 12/1 a couple days ago, why not cash a SGP at 12/1 Friday? Let’s break it down:
Los Angeles Dodgers -2.5 (+154)
The Dodgers once again look like the best team in baseball. Despite dealing with myriad health issues they’ve still looked borderline dominant, and are the clear favorites to repeat as World Series champs. Even while shuffling key guys on and off the IL all season they’ve managed to put up a +164 run differential, which is easily the best mark in the league. That ability to run up scores is exactly what you’re looking for when backing a team on an alt run line.
The Angels on the other hand have once again been a disappointment, hovering right around .500. They’re also still without Mike Trout, which needless to say is a massive absence. The Dodgers just got back Corey Seager and Mookie Betts from injuries, adding two superstars to an offense that was already producing. At home this season they’re 34-19, and the Angels have also had a poor bullpen all year. There’s a good chance this one is a blowout.
Justin Upton to record 2+ hits (+300)
We get a big odds boost by combining this with the Dodgers covering, when I don’t think it conflicts much. With the Dodgers’ sky-high offensive upside, we can afford some production from the Angels as well and still cover the -2.5. Upton has recorded multiple hits in two of his past four games, and has always hit better against lefties like Dodgers starter David Price. This season he has an .852 OPS against southpaws, and a .724 OPS against righties. Price has a 1.45 WHIP this year, and has been giving up plenty of solid contact. It also doesn’t hurt that Upton is 3/9 with a homerun in his career against Price. All we need is a high-scoring game to cash this.
