We’re off and running in the 2023 Major League Baseball season. Following a full 15-game slate on Opening Day, only 10 teams are taking the field on Friday night. The defending World Series champion Astros are in action, as are the Padres, Dodgers, Guardians and Mariners.

Below is my mega parlay for Friday, and also be sure to check out all of our MLB predictions – we went 12-4 with our picks on Thursday!

Astros -1.5 (+135)

Rockies vs Padres Over 8 (-110)

Dodgers -1.5 (+130)

MLB parlay odds: +932

For this parlay we are going with two favorites on the run line and an over play. Let’s break down each of the 3 legs.

Astros -1.5 (+135)

This is my first mega parlay of the MLB season and I will happily get started by backing some of the best teams in baseball to take care of business. That includes the Astros, who have reached back-to-back World Series – losing to the Braves in 2021 before beating the Phillies last fall. In their second game this year they will hand the ball to Cristian Javier, who wrapped up 2022 in incredible form. In his last 7 starts (playoffs included) he worked at least 5.0 innings on every occasion and never allowed more than 1 earned run. The 26-year-old right-hander was basically unhittable. In his lone appearance against the White Sox he limited them to 1 run in 5.0 innings of work. Don’t be surprised if more of the same is in store for Friday.

Rockies vs Padres Over 8 (-110)

Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland enjoyed a mostly stellar end to his 2022 campaign following a disastrous July and August. He made only one bad start over the final month of the season, but unfortunately for Freeland it came against none other than the Padres. They torched him for 7 runs (6 earned) on 9 hits in just 2.2 innings. Overall he posted a 6.75 ERA in 5 starts against the Padres. Freeland will be opposed by Nick Martinez on Friday. Martinez was also a part of the United States’ roster in the World Baseball Classic but made a poor start during the group stage and then immediately left the team in somewhat controversial fashion. That isn’t exactly encouraging preparation for the MLB season. Both of these offenses are more than capable of producing (especially San Diego’s); they should be able to get the best of Freeland and Martinez.

Dodgers -1.5 over Diamondbacks (+130)

Dustin May of the Dodgers is a bit of a question mark heading into 2023 after missing almost all of last season due to injury. Still, the right-hander finally returned toward the tail-end of the year and his limited returns were encouraging for the most part. May can probably be just decent on Friday and Los Angeles will have a good chance to cover the run line — he doesn’t have to throw a complete-game shutout when you consider the offense he has behind him. Trea Turner is gone and both Cody Bellinger and Justin Turner have also moved on, but the Dodgers simply reload. They still have Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and Will Smith to name just a few. Merill Kelly compiled a ridiculous 8.ERA in 5 starts (24.0 innings) against the Dodgers last year, so he could be in line for another rough outing.
