New York Mets ML over Philadelphia Phillies (+134)

Jose Quintana has been oddly consistent for the Mets. I say oddly because Quintana doesn’t throw with much velocity or have a good strikeout rate, but he has been one of the more reliable pitchers in New York’s rotation. He comes into this matchup with a 4.09 ERA paired with a 4.64 xERA in 28 starts. His higher xERA compared to his ERA isn’t surprising to see since that’s been the case for the majority of the season, but the southpaw continues to evade a massive hit of negative regression. Quintana did have a stretch of poor starts in August which everyone assumed would be the beginning of his downfall, but he has bounced back nicely. The lefty has allowed just 1 earned run and 15 hits in his last 3 outings against the Padres, White Sox and Reds. He has pretty solid numbers against his opposition — unlike Aaron Nola. Plus, the Phillies’ starter has struggled recently — surrendering 7 runs, 13 hits and 3 homers in his last 10.2 innings. New York has a lot of value at plus odds tonight.

Minnesota Twins -1.5 over Cincinnati Reds (+100)

Every game from now on is a must-win situation for the Twins. Minnesota currently holds the 3rd Wild Card spot in the American League with about 16 games left to play. However, it won’t be an easy last two weeks since the Tigers sit just 3.5 games out and both the Mariners and Red Sox are 4.5 games back. If the Twins slip up, their spot in the postseason could be jeopardized. Fortunately for the Twins, they have Bailey Ober on the mound. Ober has blossomed into a cornerstone of the Twins rotation as he’s posted a 3.28 xERA in 27 starts this season and has been every better since the break. Ober owns a 4-1 record with a 3.11 ERA and 0.80 WHIP in 9 starts in the second half of the year. In fact, 2 of his best starts in that 9-start span have been his most recent starts. Ober has thrown back-to-back outings of allowing just 1 hit. His strikeout numbers have been increasing, his home run-rate is lowering, and his control has been nearly perfect.

Texas Rangers -1.5 over Seattle Mariners (+130)

Rejoice, Rangers fans! Jacob deGrom is finally back! The ace of all aces has rejoined the Rangers rotation after missing the last 16 months recovering from Tommy John surgery. Initially, it was unclear if the Rangers were going to push deGrom to make a start in 2024 since Texas is close to being eliminated from postseason contention. But the right-hander returned to the Minors in August and has returned in time for one or two starts for the Rangers before the season ends. deGrom appeared in 4 games in the Minors as part of his rehab assignment and he surrendered just 1 run and 4 hits with 15 strikeouts in only 10.2 innings. The ace will certainly be on a pitch count in his first game back, but even if he can give the Rangers a few innings of domination, he will put their bullpen into a good spot for this game. Plus, the Texas offense will face Emerson Hancock — a right-hander with a 4.76 ERA paired with a 6.15 xERA and .300 xBA in 9 starts in 2024. Back the Rangers to win with deGrom back on the mound.
