MLB Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees Same Game Parlay picks: Gleyber Torres leads the way at +588 odds

New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres (25) celebrates after hitting a solo home run in the fourth inning against the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium.

This week, we’re in for a treat. Sunday Night Baseball always brings an exciting matchup since it’s the game of the week, but tonight is even more special. It features the historic rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees with Brayan Bello and Clarke Schmidt on the mound.

I’m currently hitting 100% of my MLB Same Game Parlays this season, which was hitting my one +502 Padres and Yankees SGP, but still, undefeated is undefeated!

Gleyber Torres 2+ bases (+110)

The Yankees need a spark plug in their offense with Aaron Judge on the injured list and Anthony Rizzo not being able to hit water if he fell out of a boat. In all seriousness, Rizzo is in a huge slump as he’s 1 for his last 27, so the offensive responsibilities have fallen onto the shoulders of Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres. But Stanton hasn’t been great since returning from injury, so it’s all on their leadoff guy. However, that worked out for them last night since Torres was 2-for-4 with a home run and a single. Following Saturday’s game, Torres is 4 for his last 9 with 2 home runs — so he will more than likely be at the top of New York’s lineup again and get at least 4 at-bats.

I’m not just choosing Torres because he’s been swinging the bat well in the last few days, but also because he is a great matchup against Brayan Bello. Torres is 3-for-5 in his career against Bello, and it’s because Bello relies on a sinker for his primary pitch — which is a pitch that Torres has crushed this season. He leads the Yankees in Run Value against sinkers with a .333 batting average and a .363 xBA. All it takes is an extra-base hit or a pair of singles, so I’m backing Torres for 2 or more bases.

Brayan Bello 5+ strikeouts (-205)

Recording 5 or more strikeouts is an accomplishment that Bello has done in 7 of his 9 starts this season. The 2 times he didn’t reach 5 strikeouts is when he didn’t complete 5.0 innings, so as long as he gets through 5.0 innings he should be able to get at least 5 punchouts. Bello will face a Yankees offense that has struggled against Red Sox starting pitching this series since both Garrett Whitlock and Tanner Houck recorded 6 strikeouts in their starts. That raised New York’s strikeout rate to 24.1% in the last 30 days — the 10th highest in baseball. It’s not asking a lot from Bello to get 5 Ks, especially against a New York team that has struggled to fight back when down in the count this series. If he goes at least 5, I’m confident he’ll end up with at least 5 strikeouts.

Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees Under 8.5 (-110)

The final leg of this parlay goes against the first leg, which drives up the payout a little. But with the way both offenses have looked recently, the under seems like a great choice. The total has stayed under in 5 of New York’s last 6 games and 6 of Boston’s last 8 due to the offenses struggling to find consistency. In the last 7 days, the Red Sox are hitting .228 while the Yankees are batting .209, so neither offense has been crushing the ball. Pitching has been the story of the series with no starter going less than 6.0 innings, and that has kept the bullpens fresh and ready to go.

It’s also important to consider the context of this game. It’s Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN featuring the biggest rivalry in sports, and the winner of this game wins the series. In summary, it’s a crucial game, and it’s one that Aaron Boone and Alex Cora will really, really want to win — especially because these teams face off next weekend at Fenway Park. This game should follow the trend of this series and stay below the total.
