All of a sudden this series, which may have looked meaningless a month ago, now has a little bit of juice. The Atlanta Braves are facing a little bit adversity while the Boston Red Sox have ridden a strong month to move into legitimate playoff contention. The Red Sox came out of the gates strongly on Tuesday, winning 7-1, and the Braves are looking to respond. This should be a great night of baseball at Fenway.

Braves ML (-155)

The Braves are by no means in any kind of panic mode. However, they have lost 7 of their last 11 games, including the 7-1 loss to the Red Sox last night. Prior to the All-Star break, Atlanta had lost consecutive games once only in a month. In the last 2 weeks, they have now lost consecutive games in back-to-back series. Again, there is no panic. But this Braves team will be itching to get back on the right track.

The Braves are already the best team in baseball. Add a chip on their shoulder and added urgency and they are even more dangerous. They will have Spencer Strider on the mound who gives them a chance to win even before we factor in their lineup. The Braves have better road numbers than the Red Sox have at home, both outright and against the spread and they will come out ready to pad those numbers.

Under 9.5 (-110)

The under has been hot for the Braves in the past week. The total has gone under in 4 of Atlanta’s last 6 games and in 6 of their last 8 on the road. The under has also hit in 5 of Boston’s last 7 games. With a line of 10.5 last night, that game also went under despite one of the teams putting up 7 runs. This one looks good for the under again considering recent trends and the strong starting pitching matchup.

Strider starts for the Braves, which gives the under a good look on its own. He leads the league with 189 strikeouts which is 27 clear of the field. He is also T1 in the league in wins. Strider’s upside is pure domination. Brayan Bello starts for the Red Sox. He had a great June but is working back to form after a tough last couple of starts. All in all, we can look for another lower total.

Austin Riley 1+ RBIs (+135)

Austin Riley, on any other team in baseball, would be a primary contributor looking at his numbers this season. On this loaded Braves team, while still being very valuable, he has been more of a complementary piece to Ronald Acuna and Matt Olson. Lately, though, Riley has really turned in on. He had a red-hot 5-game stretch last week against the Diamondbacks and Brewers and got on base with a hit against the Red Sox last night.

This is a hitter who is seeing the ball really well and he has a chance to be part of any offense the Braves generate. Riley had 5 home runs and 14 RBIs in each of April, May and June, highlighting his consistency. With 5 games left in July, he has 7 home runs and 18 RBIs with an .895 OPS. This is a guy to take a chance on at plus-money.
