This has been one of the most important series of the MLB season. The Braves and Mets are the favorites to win the National League behind the Dodgers, and they are in the same division. After a doubleheader yesterday, they’re capping off their 5-game series on Sunday afternoon. As if there wasn’t enough hype for this series, there is still excitement for Mets ace Jacob deGrom making just his second start since coming off the injured list. With these incredible teams, there are more than enough markets to target and make this series finale profitable. Atlanta Braves -1.5 (+198) over New York Mets
Betting against Jacob deGrom isn’t usually a fun prospect, but there’s a reason the Braves are only slight underdogs for this game. It’s still just his second start of the season, and he will likely be on a pitch count once again. Furthermore, his first start went just as Mets fans have become accustomed to and have created memes about. Regardless of how great he pitches, they never seem to provide him with the necessary run support. That’s exactly what happened, as the Mets fell to the league-worst Nationals. Now facing one of the league’s best teams, they’re going to need to support him even more.
It’s unlikely they can do so against the rookie sensation Spencer Strider. The Braves recently put a lot of faith in the youngster, announcing they will keep him in the starting rotation despite acquiring former Astro Jake Odorizzi at the trade deadline. They’re putting a lot of trust in him simply by putting him on the mound opposite DeGrom. Atlanta has been showing good faith across the board, extending Austin Riley to a 10-year, $212 million contract just before the trade deadline. He spearheads what is the league’s 3rd-highest scoring lineup and has the 2nd-most total bases this season. Along with Matt Olson tied for the league lead in doubles, their lineup is deep enough to support Strider with DeGrom likely to be on a short leash.

Spencer Strider 7+ strikeouts (-115)
This is a game involving DeGrom, so of course we’re targeting a strikeout prop. But no, we’re putting our faith in the rookie instead, just as the Braves have. In a season with plenty of incredible mustaches, Strider has been quite the pleasant surprise for more than just that. He’s coming off of a start in which he struck out 13 Phillies. That’s the 4th time he’s reached at least 11 strikeouts, and we need only 7 for this game.
Only should be used lightly, as it’s still a significant amount, but he’s more than capable. Strider had a start against the Mets less than a month ago in which he struck out 8 batters. Even after proving himself against New York, it could be argued that the Mets have struck out the 2nd-fewest times in the National League. However, the Nationals strike out the least, and he rang up 11 of them. The Cardinals are just a spot better than the Mets, and he sent 12 of them to the dugout. No matter the matchup, Strider has been proving himself time and time again.
