The CONCACAF Gold Cup has reached its final game with neither of the co-hosts involved. Canada exited at the quarterfinal stage while the United States failed to set up a final showdown against Mexico when losing a penalty shootout against Panama in the semifinals.
Tournament favorite Mexico, however, has made smooth progress to the final and is hotly fancied to collect another Gold Cup trophy with El Tri’s decision to field a stronger roster in this tournament than the US and Canadian squads looking justified.
The game kicks off at 7:30 pm ET on Sunday on FOX and our expert has picks, predictions and a best bet, as well as the latest odds, for this matchup.

Mexico vs Panama expert picks for Sunday’s CONCACAF Gold Cup Final
Mexico vs Panama best bet: Mexico ML (-155, DraftKings)
Mexico is accustomed to success in CONCACAF Gold Cup Finals, winning 8 of 10, and should be too strong for Panama at SoFi Stadium in California on Sunday. Reaching the final is an achievement in itself for Panama, which has never won the competition and was given little chance when the tournament began. However, the Panamanians demolished Qatar 4-0 in the quarterfinals and sprang a surprise against USA in Wednesday’s semifinal in San Diego, holding the USMNT to a 1-1 tie after extra-time and winning 5-4 on penalty kicks. Panama’s success over USA was thoroughly merited given that the underdogs completed the greater number of passes (697 to 533) and had twice the number of shots on target (6 to 3).
It is worth remembering that the Stars & Stripes had omitted several first-choice players from the Gold Cup squad and had shown vulnerability in the quarterfinal against Canada which they won 3-2 on penalties after a wild 2-2 tie after extra-time. Mexico is treating the competition more seriously and a strong squad selection has paid off. El Tri brushed aside Costa Rica 2-0 in the quarterfinals and were convincing 3-0 winners against a dangerous Jamaica team in the final four. Jaime Lozano’s side defended stoutly against a Jamaican team featuring EPL attackers Demarai Gray and Leon Bailey. They face what appears to be an easier task against Panama and have good value on the money line to wrap up the trophy in regulation.
