It was the end of an era for the Las Vegas Raiders at the end of last season (actually before the end of last season), as veteran quarterback Derek Carr moved on from the franchise following 9 years as the starter under center. Carr has now taken his talents to New Orleans, replaced at QB by Jimmy Garoppolo.
Change is not necessarily a bad thing for the Raiders, who never won a single playoff game during the Carr era and are coming off a 6-11 campaign in 2022. With Garoppolo running the offense, will year 2 under head coach Josh McDaniels see the turning of the tide? Let’s take a look at some of the odds and best bets to be made on the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023.

Las Vegas Raiders 2022 season recap
The Raiders endured a second consecutive tumultuous season. In 2021, head coach Jon Gruden was fired just 5 games into the second year of his contract due to off-the-field controversy. In 2022, Carr got benched following a Week 16 loss and then left the team. That Week 16 setback at Pittsburgh dropped Las Vegas to 6-9, eliminating it from playoff contention. McDaniels’ squad promptly lost its next 2 contests, finishing at 6-11. There were some individual bright spots, however. Running back Josh Jacobs was the NFL rushing leader, wide receiver Davante Adams had 1,516 yards and 14 touchdowns and defensive end Maxx Crosby recorded 12.5 sacks.

Las Vegas Raiders 2023 NFL season predictions
As the odds suggest, Las Vegas is expected to be the worst team in the AFC West and among the worst teams in the entire conference. After all, they struggled mightily last year and now Carr is gone. Garoppolo has plenty of experience as a starting quarterback in the NFL, but it is fair to say that he comes with question marks. An even bigger question is Jacobs’ status, as the star RB is holding out and currently unwilling to sign his franchise tag.
Here are a couple of my Las Vegas-related predictions for the upcoming season.
Best bet: Las Vegas Raiders to make the playoffs (+380)
To be abundantly clear, I would avoid betting on (or against) the Raiders like the plague until we find out for sure what Jacobs is going to do. If Jacobs either doesn’t play for the team or misses a significant chunk of time, that changes everything. If he ends up being ready to go for Week 1, Las Vegas can compete for a playoff spot. Jacobs is one of the best running backs in the game, this club also has a star at the WR position in Adams and Garoppolo is a quarterback who has been to the Super Bowl. On the other side of the ball, pairing Crosby with first-round pick Tyree Wilson on the defensive line could be scary. The Raiders may not be great, but they can be good enough to steal a wild-card spot and at +380 odds that play has good value – if you risk making the assumption that Jacobs is playing.
Las Vegas Raiders season record predictions
This would obviously be just a small bet, but to correlate with the bet on Las Vegas to make the playoffs I would not be opposed to sprinkling a play an exact record of 9-8. At huge +750 odds, this number has good value (it is the fifth most likely outcome for the Raiders per the odds, trailing 6, 7, 8 and 5.
