KBO picks and predictions
Wednesday’s five-game slate will feature some lopsided matchups that offer value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.
Hanwha Eagles ML (-105) vs Kia Tigers
Maybe not the most exciting matchup here, but the bottom dwellers of the KBO will face off again in a game between the Hanwha Eagles and the Kia Tigers. The Eagles lost on Tuesday 4-1, and will start Nick Kingham. He has a record of 4-4 this season with an ERA of 3.61. Kingham is probably the best pitcher that the Eagles have. He has faced the Tigers once this season, going 6.0 innings of shut-out baseball.
On the other side, the Tigers will start Kim Hyeon-su. He is 1-0 on the season, but has an ERA of 8.47. What is worse is that he has an ERA of 12.00 in one previous appearance against the Eagles. This was a relief appearance back in June, where he allowed 4 runs in just 2.0 innings. Also, note that this will only be the second start of the season for Hyeon-su.
It is obvious that both teams here have very little to offer. However, the pitching edge in this matchup is clearly with the Eagles, so backing them to win will be the recommended play.
Doosan Bears vs Samsung Lions – Under 10.5 Runs (-120)
In 9 head-to-head games, the under has cashed in 6 of 9. They have averaged 9.55 runs combined in their 9 meetings, but this number is slightly skewed by the fact that one of their games had 20 runs scored. We know how much Young-ha has struggled, but with this being the first game back after the Olympics, it looks like we might get a low scoring game. Montgomery has shown early signs of pitching well in this league, plus the Bears have not seen him yet. For that reason, backing the under will be the play.
SSG Landers vs LG Twins – Under 8.5 Runs (-120)
For being the second placed team, the Twins do not score as much as most might think. They are 8th in runs for, averaging 4.63 per game. At the same time, they allow the least number of runs, averaging 4.0 runs against per game. The Landers are actually the 2nd best offense in the KBO in terms of runs for, averaging 5.17 runs per game. Their defense is near the bottom though, allowing 5.18 runs per game. Even though some of trends point to an over, the Twins’ offense just cannot be trusted to put up a crooked number. Both of the starting pitching has had plenty of success against each other, so backing the under will be the play.
