KBO picks and predictions
Friday’s five-game slate will feature some lopsided matchups that offer value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.
Lotte Giants Moneyline (+142)
The Lotte Giants made quick work of the SK Wyverns in their most recent series, sweeping them in two games (one game was cancelled due to rain). The Giants have now won four games in a row and sit in 7th place in the KBO standings. The Doosan Bears are coming off a series where they went 1-1-1 against the Samsung Lions.
The Giants will plan to start Se-wong Park to open this series. He is 5-5 on the year with a 5.00 ERA. Although he has been better as of late, going 3-1 in his last five starts with an ERA of 3.46. He has pitched lights out against the Bears, going 1-1 with an ERA of 0.90 in two starts against them. Park should be considered the better pitcher, compared to Young-ha Lee for Doosan, who is currently 3-6 on the season with an ERA of 5.62. I believe the Giants have the clear pitching edge and will take them to win their fifth game in a row.
KT Wiz/Hanwha Eagles Over 9.5 Runs (-120)
This over play has to do a lot with the low quality pitchers starting this game. Chad Bell makes the start for the Hanwha Eagles. He is 0-6 on the year with an abysmal 7.44 ERA. Also, he has allowed five earned runs in three of his last five starts. Bell has made one start against the KT Wiz this season, allowing five runs in five innings of work.
It does not get any better as we see Je-seong Bae take the mound for the KT Wiz. At least Bae is 5-2 on the season, but his ERA is not great either, sitting at 4.11. This is more about his recent form as he has allowed 19 runs over his last 26 innings (five starts), posting an ERA of 6.58. Because of these pitchers, I will back runs to be scored in this game.
LG Twins/Kiwoom Heroes Under 9.5 Runs (-112)
These teams may not be starting their best pitchers, but they have been serviceable and at times have each looked very solid. That being Casey Kelly for the LG Twins and Jake Brigham for the Kiwoom Heroes. Kelly is 4-6 on the season, posting an ERA of 4.38. He was excellent in his most recent start against Hanwha, allowing one earned run over seven innings. Kelly also has had success against Kiwoom this season, going six shutout innings against them.
Jake Brigham is in the same boat as Kelly, considering he is 1-1 on the year with a 4.26 ERA. His last start was a little rough, but overall he has improved over his last three starts, posting an ERA of 3.29. The Heroes offense have also slowed down recently, scoring four or less runs in three of their last four games. I will back a more defensive minded outing and will take the under here.
