KBO picks and predictions

Saturday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Kiwoom Heroes (+134) vs Samsung Lions

The Kiwoom Heroes won a tight game on Friday morning, managing just 1 run in a 1-0 win against the Samsung Lions. They will be looking for their 2nd win in a row on Saturday, and will start Eric Jokisch to do just that. Jokisch is 0-1 on the year so far, but his ERA of 1.50 suggests he had a good outing and was let down by his bullpen. He is coming off a great 2021, where he was 16-9 with an ERA of 2.93. Against the Lions, he was 2-1, allowing 8 earned runs over 20.0 innings.

With the loss on Friday, the Samsung moved back to .500 on the year and will look to get back to a winning record. They will counter with Albert Suarez, who went 6.0 innings, allowing 2 earned runs in his KBO debut.

Both pitchers had solid opening starts, but Jokisch is much more experienced, while Suarez is still learning the teams in the KBO. For that reason, backing the more experienced pitcher in Jokisch will be the play.

KT Wiz ML (-182) vs Hanwha Eagles

Big surprise on Friday morning as the Hanwha Eagles lost yet again, and are now 0-6 to start the season. Saturday will be another chance to earn their first win, but you cannot like their chances against the KT Wiz. The Eagles will start Nick Kingham in this game, who is 0-1 on the season and has an ERA of 1.50. Even though he lost his first start, this was a game where he allowed just 1 earned run over 6.0 innings, so there is a small chance he could have a good outing here.

With the win on Friday, the KT Wiz are now 2-4 on the year and can get closer to .500 with another win against the struggling Eagles. They will counter with Bae Je-Seong, who has not recorded a decision so far this year. That lone start against the Samsung Lions in which he pitched 7.0 innings of shutout baseball. He also allowed just 4 hits in that game, so we should expect another solid out against a team who struggles to find any type of offense.

The Eagles have already shown they might be a non-factor this season and we are barely a week in. The KT Wiz have the edge on the mound as well, so backing the KT Wiz will be the play here.

Kia Tigers vs SSG Landers ML (-205)

The SSG Landers continued their dominant start to the season, winning their 6th straight game on Friday morning. They beat this Tigers team 3-0 and will look to make it 7 wins in a row on Saturday. The Landers will start Kim Kwang-Hyun in this spot, who has not recorded a decision so far, but has an ERA of 1.80. His last full season was in 2019, where he was 17-6 and had an ERA of 2.51. During that season, he 2-1 against the Tigers, allowing 5 earned runs over 19.0 innings.

With the loss on Friday, the Tigers fell to 3-3 on the season. They will counter with Lee Min-Woo, who is 2-0 on the season with an ERA of 4.00. Last year Min-Woo really struggled, going 1-6 and posted an ERA of 8.05. He did not face the SSG Landers last year.

The SSG Landers have the clear advantage on the mound and they have the momentum in general with their perfect start to the season. For that reason, backing them to win again will be the play.
