Philadelphia 76ers ML over New York Knicks (+190)
It’s been a while since the Philadelphia 76ers have recorded a signature win and tonight’s game against the wounded Knicks might just be the perfect occasion to do so. The Sixers are on the 2nd night of a back-to-back here, but it’s not a typical one as they rested basically half of their team last night against Oklahoma City, aiming to get a result against the Knicks on Wednesday. They are still heavy underdogs, but perhaps having Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey on the court at the same time will lift the team a bit in front of a packed Wells Fargo Center.
These 2 teams met in the playoffs last season, so there’s definitely an added incentive for Philly to get revenge here. New York has had a rough start to 2025 with just 2 wins in their last 7 games, while exchanging losses and wins in their last 5 games at MSG. Their road form is one of the better ones in the East, but with the Sixers going 10-4 in their last 14 games against Eastern Conference opponents and the crowd being behind them, I feel like they are worth siding with to pull off the upset here.
Paul George to record 6+ rebounds (-125)
George’s rebounding has gone up quite a lot in January, as he’s averaging 7.3 boards per game compared to a modest 5.5 per game in December. Due to the injury situation in Philadelphia, head coach Nick Nurse has even resorted to playing George at the center position for longer stretches, which has resulted in him averaging 10 rebounds per game in his last 3 outings against Phoenix, New Orleans and Orlando. He was Philly’s lone bright spot in the first meeting earlier this season with 29 points and 10 rebounds. The 10 boards in that game was the 7th time in the last 10 games against New York that he was able to clear this line. I’m expecting a lot of defense to be shown in this game, as the 76ers cannot afford to go into a run-and-gun scenario since they don’t have enough to keep up with the Knicks. If PG can solidify his stance under the basket, I like the Sixers’ chances here.
Karl-Anthony Towns 2+ made threes (-150)
Guarding Karl-Anthony Towns will be a challenge for the 76ers here, especially for Joel Embiid, who is more of a power player and won’t be able to keep up with KAT running around the perimeter. The 29-year-old is shooting the lights out from three-point land in January, knocking down 50% of his attempts on 2.3 makes per game. That’s a significant improvement from the 1.8 makes on 39% efficiency in the month prior. Guarding the three-ball isn’t something the 76ers have excelled at this year – they allow opponents to make 36.2% of their attempts, ranking only 18th in the NBA. In the last 10 meetings against the 76ers, KAT has cleared this line 7 times and is averaging 21.8 points per game. This also includes the regular-season opener this year when he went 2-for-6 from downtown in a 111-99 Knicks win. After seeing him make 4 threes in the Pistons game, I’m confident Towns can knock down a pair in this one.
