KBO picks and predictions
Tuesday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.
KT Wiz vs SSG Landers ML (-188)
The KT Wiz ended last week in disaster, losing to the Hanwha Eagles. Not only did they lose, but they got blown out 12-4 by one of the worst teams in the KBO. The KT Wiz are now 21-28 on the season and have lost 3 games in a row. They are currently in 8th place, but could be in danger of dropping further down the standings with a loss to open the week. The KT Wiz will start Ko Young-Pyo on Tuesday morning, who is 2-5 on the season and has an ERA of 3.15. In 9 starts this season, he has allowed 21 earned runs over 60.0 innings.
The SSG Landers got back into the win column on Sunday with a 9-7 win over the Kia Tigers. They are now 34-14-2 on the season and still have a healthy 5 game lead in 1st place. They will counter with Wilmer Font, who is 6-3 on the season and has an ERA of 2.18. In 10 starts this season, he has allowed 16 earned runs over 66.0 innings.
Young-Pyo has by no means been bad this season, but Font has still been much more dominant. With the KT Wiz already having lost 3 games in a row, it is unlikely they will be able to turn things around against one of the better pitchers in the KBO. For that reason, backing the SSG Landers will be the play.
NC Dinos vs Hanwha Eagles – Under 7.5 runs (-106)
The total could a decent play here because Drew Rucinski is likely to shut down the offense of the Eagles. Rucinski has allowed more than 3 earned runs just once this season. In 8 of this 10 starts, he has allowed less than 2 earned runs. Over his last 2 starts, he has allowed 1 earned runs over 15.0 innings to further prove his recent dominance. On the other side, Nam Ji-Min, has actually been solid as of late. He has allowed just 2 earned runs over his last 9.0 innings (1 start). The main concern for him is his ability to go deep into the game. Of his 5 starts, he has not lasted past the 5th inning in a single one. He does have 1 start against the Dinos, where he allowed 4 earned runs over 4.0 innings. Even with these concerns, the under looks to be the better play because the Eagles’ offense is well below average and likely do not have the firepower to do much against Rucinski. For that reason, the under will be the play here.
Samsung Lions vs Kiwoom Heroes ML (-116)
The Samsung Lions managed to win on Sunday morning, beating the LG Twins by a score of 8-4. The Lions are now 24-25 on the season and are currently sitting in 6th place in the standings. They will start Won-Tae-In on Tuesday morning, who is 3-2 on the season and has an ERA of 3.22. In 8 starts, he has allowed 18 earned runs over 50.1 innings.
The Kiwoom Heroes also won on Sunday, beating the Lotte Giants by a score of 4-0. They are now 30-20 on the season, have won 6 games in a row and are 2nd place in the standings. They will counter with An Woo-Jin, who is 6-3 on the season and has an ERA of 2.47. In 10 starts this season, he has allowed 17 earned runs over 62.0 innings.
Kiwoom is clearly the hottest team in the KBO right now and they need to continue to win if they are going to close the gap on 1st place. Because they have an edge in starting pitching, backing the Heroes will be the play.
