KBO picks and predictions

Thursday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Kia Tigers vs Samsung Lions – Under 7.5 runs (-112)

The total flew over on Wednesday, but less runs should be expected on Thursday because of the starting pitching. As mentioned, Ronnie Williams has far fewer starts and innings this season, but when he has pitched, he has shut his opponents down effectively. Williams has allowed 2 earned runs or less in all of his appearances. On the other side, David Buchanan has allowed 3 earned runs or less in all 9 of his starts. He has faced the Tigers once this season, allowing 3 earned runs over 6.0 innings. Since that start that could be seen as shaky, he has allowed just 2 earned runs over 22.0 innings (3 starts). During this stretch, he also threw a complete game shutout against the Doosan Bears. The Tigers may have the top ranked offense in terms of total runs, but facing Buchanan will be a much tougher task, and it is more likely they will struggle to find runs. Same goes for the Lions’ offense, who faces a starter who rarely allows more than a couple runs. For that reason, backing the under will be the play.

Lotte Giants vs SSG Landers – Under 7.5 runs (-110)

The total went over on Wednesday even with a shortened game, but runs are likely going to be hard to come by on Thursday. Na Gyun-Na is coming off his first start of the season last time out, a game where he did not allow a run over 6.2 innings. In his 11 relief appearances, he has not allowed more than 2 earned runs in a game.

On the other side, Kim Kwang-Hyun has had one start where he allowed 4 earned runs and that was the worst outing. Other than this start, he has not allowed more than 1 earned run in a game. The Giants are already a below average team offensively, ranking 8th in total runs. The SSG Landers are 3rd in total runs and just scored 9 on Wednesday. However, facing a much tougher starter on Thursday should repel their offense and keep them from having a similar performance. Because both starters have allowed next to nothing, whether it be in a starter role or a reliever role, backing the under will be the play.

LG Twins vs Kiwoom Heroes – Under 6.5 runs (-118)

The total went well over on Wednesday, but the starting pitching matchup for Thursday would suggest a lower scoring game. Eric Jokisch has allowed more than 4 earned runs in just 2 starts this season with 7 of his 9 starts resulting in 3 earned runs or less. Adam Plutko on the other hand, has also allowed more than 4 earned runs in just 2 starts this season with 7 of his 9 starts resulting in 3 earned runs or less. The Heroes’ offense is 5th in total runs this season, while the Twins’ offense is 2nd, but the starters scheduled for this game have been too strong and too consistent to believe either side are going to find much offense. For that reason, look for this game to be more of a pitchers’ duel and back the under.
