KBO picks and predictions

Sunday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Samsung Lions vs Lotte Giants ML (-134)

The Samsung Lions are nearly back to .500 on the season, winning their 4th straight game on Saturday morning. They are now 15-16 on the season and sit in 6th place in the league standings. The Lions will start Albert Suarez on Sunday, who is 1-3 on the season and has an ERA of 2.57. In 6 starts this season, Suarez has allowed 10 earned runs over 35.0 innings.

With the loss on Saturday, the Giants have now lost 3 games in a row. They are now 16-13-1 on the season and have slipped to 3rd place in the standings. The Giants do look to be in a great spot to snap their losing streak as they will start Charlie Barnes. He is 5-0 on the season and has an ERA of 1.42. In 7 starts this season, Barnes has allowed 7 earned runs over 44.1 innings. He also has had 1 start against the Lions, in which he held them scoreless over 7.0 innings.

Barnes had his worst start of the season last time out against the KT Wiz, allowing 4 earned runs over 3.0 innings. However, he still has been dominant in every other start this season and that should not change against the surging Lions. Suarez has been good as well, but Barnes has been better. As such, backing Barnes and the Giants will be the play.

SSG Landers ML (-162) vs Kiwoom Heroes

The SSG Landers got back into the win column on Saturday, beating the Kiwoom Heroes by a score of 3-0. They are now 22-8-1 on the season and have extended their lead over 2nd place by 5.0 games. The SSG Landers also look to be in a great spot-on Sunday, as they will start Kim Kwang-Hyun. He is 4-0 on the season and has an ERA of 0.56. In 5 starts this season, Kwang-Hyun has allowed 2 earned runs over 32.0 innings. He also has 1 start against the Kiwoom Heroes, in which he allowed just 1 earned run over 6.0 innings.

With the loss on Saturday, the Kiwoom Heroes are now 17-14 on the season and are sitting in a tie for 4th place in the league standings. The Heroes will counter with Eric Jokisch, who is 3-2 on the season and has an ERA of 2.09. In 6 starts this season Jokisch has allowed 9 earned runs over 38.2 innings.

Both starters have been lights out this season, but Kwang-Hyun has been nearly unhittable. Jokisch did have 1 start where he struggled, so the SSG Landers still have the pitching advantage — which makes them worth a play.

KT Wiz vs Doosan Bears ML (-160)

The Doosan Bears bounced back with a win on Saturday, beating the KT Wiz by a score of 11-8. They are now 17-13 on the season and sit in 2nd place in the league standings. The Bears will hope to keep pace with the 1st placed SSG Landers by starting Choi Won-Joon on Sunday morning. He is 2-2 on the season and has an ERA of 1.77. In 6 starts this season, Won-Joon has allowed 7 earned runs over 35.2 innings.

With the loss on Saturday, the KT Wiz are now 14-16 on the season and are sitting in 7th place in the league standings. They will counter with So Hyeong-Jun, who is 3-1 on the season and has an ERA of 3.86. In 5 starts this season, he has allowed 14 earned runs over 32.2 innings. He also has 1 start against the Bears, in which he allowed 4 earned runs over 6.2 innings.

Neither pitcher has been bad this season, but Hyeong-Jun has been a little too inconsistent to trust here. For that reason backing the Bears will be the play.
