KBO picks and predictions

Sunday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

Samsung Lions ML (+110) vs LG Twins

The LG Twins cruised to a 9-4 win against the Samsung Lions on Saturday morning and are now 28-21. That was their 2nd win in a row and they currently sit in 3rd place in the league standings. The Twins will start Kim Yun-Sik, who is 1-3 on the season and has an ERA of 5.26. In 6 starts he has allowed 15 earned runs in 25.2 innings.

With the loss on Saturday, the Samsung Lions are now 23-25 on the season. Their struggles continue as they have now lost 5 games in a row and are sitting in 6th place. The Lions will counter with Hwang Dong-Jae, who is 1-0 on the season and has an ERA of 2.91. In 7 appearances (6 starts), he has allowed 11 earned runs over 34.0 innings.

The Lions are going through a dreadful stretch at the moment, but their advantage on the mound for Sunday looks to be the biggest difference. Because their starter has been consistent, backing the Lions will be the play here.

SSG Landers vs Kia Tigers – Over 9.5 runs (+104)

Despite both pitchers having serviceable ERAs, the over might be worth a look to close out the week on Sunday. These teams just played to an over on Saturday and that was with the Tigers doing the bulk of the scoring. Oh Won-Seok has been good over his last 2 starts but has 3 starts this season where he allowed at least 4 earned runs. On the other side, Han Seung-Hyuk has regressed as of late — allowing at least 3 earned runs in his last 3 starts. This stretch also includes a game in which he allowed 5 earned runs. The SSG Landers may have been held to 3 runs on Saturday, but they are still the 3rd-best offense in the league in terms of total runs; the Tigers remain 1st in that same category. Neither pitcher has been dominant this season, therefore backing both sides to have offensive success will be the play.

Kiwoom Heroes vs Lotte Giants ML (-245)

The Lotte Giants fell to the Kiwoom Heroes in extra innings on Saturday morning, losing by a score of 6-3. The Giants are now 22-25-1 on the season and have lost 5 games in a row. They are now 7th in the standings, but have a great chance to bounce back on Sunday. The Giants will start Charlie Barnes to end the week on Sunday, who is 6-1 on the season and has an ERA of 2.19. In 11 starts this season, he has allowed 17 earned runs over 70.0 innings.

With the win on Saturday, the Kiwoom Heroes are now 29-20 on the season and have won 5 games in a row. They are currently 2nd in the standings, and trail 1st place by 5 games. The Heroes will counter with Han Hyun-Hee, who is 0-1 on the season and has an ERA of 13.50. In 6 appearances (1 start), he has allowed 12 earned runs over 8.0 innings.

Despite their losing streak, Barnes has been much too strong to fade — especially against a guy like Hyun-Hee. For that reason, backing the Giants will be the play.
