KBO picks and predictions
Saturday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.
Kia Tigers vs Kiwoom Heroes ML (-120)
The Kia Tigers got a win on Friday morning, beating the Kiwoom Heroes by a score of 5-4. They are now 8-9 on the season and will have the chance to move back to .500 with a win on Saturday morning. The Tigers will start Lee Eui-Lee, who has not recorded a decision, and has an ERA of 3.75. In 3 starts, he has allowed 5 earned runs in 12.0 innings.
With the loss on Friday, the Heroes are now 10-8 on the season and have lost 3 games in a row. This looks to be a great spot for them as they will start Choi Won-Tae. He has been very good to start the season, posting a record of 1-0 with an ERA of 1.13. In 3 starts this season, Won-Tae has allowed 2 earned runs in 16.0 innings.
While Eui-Lee has not been bad for the Tigers, he has been shaky at times this season, while Won-Tae has been consistently shutting down the teams he has faced. Because of the pitching advantage for the Heroes, backing them to win will be the play.
LG Twins ML (+128) vs Doosan Bears
The LG Twins managed to win on Friday, beating the Doosan Bears by a score of 5-1. They are now 11-7 on the season, sitting in 2nd place in the standings. They are scheduled to start Lim Jun-Hyeung, who is 1-0 on the season and has an ERA of 1.59. This will actually be his first start this season, but in 3 relief appearances, Jun-Hyeung has allowed 2 earned runs in 9.1 innings of work.
With the loss on Friday, the Bears are now 10-7 on the season and are sitting in 3rd place in the standings. With a win, they would surpass the Twins for 2nd place. Doosan will counter with Ariel Miranda, who has yet to record a decision this season, but has an ERA of 2.25. In his lone start, he allowed just 1 earned run, but only managed to pitch 4.0 innings against the Kiwoom Heroes.
Miranda is a solid pitcher, but he has yet to pitch much this season, which could be a small concern. Jun-Hyeung does not have a start yet, but his relief appearances have been solid enough to expect a good outing from him. Jun-Hyeung has been slightly better this season, so backing the Twins will be the play.
SSG Landers ML (-270) vs Hanwha Eagles
In what might have been the biggest upset of the season so far, the SSG Landers lost to the Hanwha Eagles on Friday morning by a score of 2-0. The SSG Landers have still only lost 3 times this season and are still clearly the team to beat right now. They will start Ivan Nova on Saturday, who is 2-0 on the season and has an ERA of 3.50. In 3 starts, he has allowed 7 earned runs in 18.0 innings.
Even with the surprise win on Friday, the Eagles still find themselves 6 games under .500. They are 9th place in the standings at the moment, passing the NC Dinos on Friday. The Eagles have also won 2 games in a row and will need another good performance if they are going to make it 3 in a row. Hanwha is set to start Nam Ji-Min, who has not recorded a decision this season. In 3 starts, he has allowed 6 earned runs in only 7.1 innings of work. He also has not been able to go more than 3.0 innings in any of his starts, which has to be a concern for the Eagles.
The SSG Landers were caught off guard when they lost to the Eagles on Friday, but should be in a perfect spot to bounce back with a win. Nova has been much more reliable than Ji-Man, so backing the SSG Landers to get back into the win column will be the play.
