KBO picks and predictions
Friday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.
Kia Tigers ML (-136) vs Hanwha Eagles
The Hanwha Eagles were blown out on Thursday morning, losing 14-4 against league leading SSG Landers. The Eagles are now 11-18 on the season and sit in 9th place in the league standings. They will now switch their focus to the Kia Tigers, a team that is much more beatable. The Eagles will start Kim Min-Woo, who is 2-3 on the season and has an ERA of 4.59. In 6 starts this season he has allowed 16 earned runs over 29.1 innings. Other than 2 starts in which he allowed at least 5 earned runs, Min-Woo has been decent — including his most recent start, in which he did not allow a run over 5.0 innings.
The Kia Tigers managed to win their series finale against the Kiwoom Heroes on Thursday, beating them by a score of 10-1. The Tigers are now 12-16 on the season, and have won 2 games in a row. They will counter with Han Seung-Hyuk, who is 1-0 on the season and has an ERA of 2.28. In 4 starts this season, Seung-Hyuk has allowed a total of 6 earned runs over 23.2 innings. He also has 1 start against the Eagles, in which he allowed just 1 earned run over 5.2 innings.
The Eagles had success earlier this week when they beat the SSG Landers, but that quickly faded with the game on Thursday. The Tigers have the clear advantage on the mound, and are playing much better at the moment, therefore backing the Tigers will be the play.
KT Wiz vs Doosan Bears – Under 6.5 (+108)
The total looks to be the better play here based on the fact that neither pitcher has allowed many runs. Gwak Been has yet to allow more than 2 earned runs in a game and Ko Young-Pyo has not allowed more than 3 earned runs in a game. The Bears do rank 4th in total runs, averaging 4.14 runs per game, while the KT Wiz rank 7th in total runs (4.0 runs per game). The recent form of both Been and Young-Pyo has been too strong to ignore. They both performed well against each other earlier this season, so predicting the same and forecasting a low-scoring game will be the play.
Samsung Lions vs Lotte Giants ML (+102)
The Samsung won their 2nd game in a row on Thursday, beating the NC Dinos by a score of 5-2. They are now 13-16 on the season and are sitting in 7th place in the KBO standings. They will look for their 3rd straight win on Friday and are scheduled to start Won Tae-In. He is 1-1 on the season and has an ERA of 3.52. In 4 starts this season Tae-In has allowed 9 earned runs over 23.0 innings.
With the loss on Thursday, the Lotte Giants are now 16-11-1. They are still in 2nd place in the standings, but now trail 1st place by 4.5 games. They will counter with Lee In-Bok. He is 3-2 on the season and has an ERA of 2.70. In 6 appearances this season (4 starts), In-Bok has allowed 8 earned runs over 26.2 innings. He does have 1 start against the Lions this season, allowing 3 earned runs over 5.2 innings.
Despite 1 shaky start against the Lions, In-Bok has still been the more consistent pitcher in 2022. The Lions may have won 2 games in a row, but that should end on Friday when they face In-Bok. For that reason, backing the Giants will be the play.
