KBO picks and predictions
Friday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.
Kia Tigers vs Kiwoom Heroes – Under 6.5 Runs (-128)
The total should be considered the better play here because of the success both starters have had through the early part of this season. The Tigers are averaging 3.9 runs per game, while they are allowing 4.3. On the other side, the Heroes are averaging 3.5 runs per game and are allowing 3.4. Both of these teams saw the under cash in their game on Thursday, so with the offenses struggling to find much success, plus the starters pretty much shutting anyone they face down, the under will be the play here.
LG Twins vs Doosan Bears – Under 7.5 (-116)
The total could be the better play in this matchup given that both starters have done reasonably well to limit their opponents. The Twins are averaging 4.2 runs per game, the 3rd-best offense in the KBO. They are allowing 3.6 runs per game as well.
On the other side, the Bears are averaging 3.6 runs per game, the 9th-best offense in the league, while they are allowing 3.6 runs per game, the 2nd-best defensive team. Both of the starters are likely to give up a few runs as we have seen this season already, but neither are likely to get shelled. For that reason, the under looks to be worth a play.
Lotte Giants ML (-164) vs Samsung Lions
The Giants lost to the one team no one wants to lose to on Thursday, that being the Hanwha Eagles. The Giants are now back to .500 on the season, sitting in 5th place in the league standings. The Giants will start Charlie Barnes, who is 3-0 this season and has an ERA of 0.68. In 3 starts this season, Barnes has allowed just 1 earned run in 21.1 innings of work. His most recent start was his best of the season, pitching 8.2 innings of shutout baseball against the KT Wiz. The start prior to that was also a shutout, so he has not allowed a run in his last 13.2 innings.
The Samsung Lions blew out the NC Dinos on Thursday, beating them 10-3. The Lions are now 7-10 on the season and will counter with Baek Jung-Hyun. He is 0-1 on the season and has an ERA of 6.94. Over 2 starts this season, Jung-Hyun has allowed 9 earned runs in 11.2 innings.
The Giants may have lost to the Eagles on Thursday, but Barnes has the clear advantage in this game on Friday. Jung-Hyun has had too many struggles to trust, so backing the Giants will be the play.
