KBO picks and predictions
Friday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.
Hanwha Eagles +2.5 over SSG Landers (-112)
The SSG Landers beat the Hanwha Eagles 10-1 on Thursday morning. They are now 84-46-4 on the season, and are still in 1st place in the league standings, growing their lead to 3.5 games. On Friday the Landers will start Kim Kwang-Hyun, who is 12-2 and has an ERA of 1.85. In 25 starts he has allowed 32 earned runs over 155.1 innings.
With the loss on Thursday, the Eagles are now 43-88-2 and remain in last place in the league standings. The Eagles will counter with Kim Ki-Joong, who is 0-1 and has an ERA of 1.29. In 3 appearances (1 start) he has allowed 1 earned run over 7.0 innings.
The pitching matchup clearly favors the Landers, but Ki-Joong has been good enough so far to give his team a chance. For that reason, backing the Eagles on the run line will be the play.
Kia Tigers vs NC Dinos – Over 9.5 runs (-104)
The total looks to be the better play in this game because Drew Rucinski has been poor recently, while Im Gi-Yeong has not been consistent. Rucinski has allowed 13 earned runs over 16.1 innings in his last 3 starts. In his lone start against the Tigers he allowed 5 earned runs over 6.0 innings.
On the other side, Gi-Yeong has allowed 9 runs (7 earned) over 19.0 innings in his last 3 starts. In 3 starts against the Dinos he has allowed 12 earned runs over 14.1 innings. Because both starters have had their fair share of struggles when facing each other, backing the over looks to be worth a play on Friday morning.
KT Wiz vs Samsung Lions – Under 8.5 runs (-126)
The total looks to be the better play given how consistent both starters have been this season. David Buchanan has allowed 4 or more runs in 5 starts during the 2022 campaign. In his last 2 starts he has allowed just 2 earned runs over 14.2 innings. In 4 starts against the KT Wiz this season, he has allowed 10 earned runs over 24.0 innings.
On the other side, Ko Young-Pyo has allowed 4 or more runs in 6 starts this year. In his last 2 starts he has allowed 5 runs (4 earned) over 13.0 innings. In his lone start against the Lions he did not allow a run over 7.0 innings.
Based on the form that both starters have when facing each other and the success they have both had in their recent starts, backing the under looks to be the play.
