Pickswise was nice enough to give me the opportunity to write my plays up for you all. For those of you who don’t know me, they refer to me as JutPicks on Twitter. I post all my plays with brief writeups every day. Now I get to write even more with no character limit!
I pride myself on being as transparent as they come. My MLB record from last season is listed in my bio. On the year, I recorded 150 wins and 107 losses for a gain of +31 units. Without further ado, let’s dive into my favorite plays for Wednesday.
Kyle Hendricks (Cubs) under 3.5 Ks (+106)
Line available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.
I backed Kyle Hendricks a ton last season. He was almost an auto-bet to pitch at least 6 innings. He had a streak of 13 straight starts pitching into the 6th inning and was the Cubs’ best pitcher.
Fast forward to this season. Hendricks looked great on Opening Day. He struck out 7 batters and lifted the Cubs to a victory. But in his last start he couldn’t make it out of the 5th inning, allowed 6 runs and struck out only 2 of 22 batters that he faced against the same Milwaukee Brewers team that he dominated in his first game of 2022.
Tonight he faces off against fellow Chicago team, the White Sox. The White Sox hold the 3rd-lowest K% against right-handed pitching. Out of the last 6 righties to start against the White Sox, only 1 has recorded at least 4 strikeouts. Surprisingly, that was veteran Zack Greinke, who does not have great put-away stuff.
Multiple White Sox hitters have had success against Hendricks. José Abreu is hitting .591, Josh Harrison .458, and Tim Anderson .375. Even though the Cubs desperately need a quality start from Hendricks after they used 5 arms last night, I do not see him having success fanning batters tonight.

Milwaukee Brewers -1 1st 5 innings (-130)
Line available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.
This is a 1-sided pitching matchup. For the Milwaukee Brewers, Freddy Peralta will be taking the bump after having back-to-back quality starts. He’s allowed 6 hits and only 1 earned run in his last 11 innings pitched. On the other side, the Cincinnati Reds will start 25-year-old Vladimir Gutiérrez. Gutiérrez is on the hot seat. With a bad start tonight, he could be down in AAA. Gutiérrez has allowed at least 2 earned runs in each start, all coming in or before the 5th inning.
The Reds are an abysmal 3-20 this season. They’re hitting .200 against right-handed pitching and scoring 1.35 runs per 5 innings, which is bottom 3 in the majors.
I expect Peralta to continue to deal like he has the last 2 seasons and for Gutiérrez to blow up in his last start for a while in the major leagues.
