Pickswise was nice enough to give me the opportunity to write my plays up for you all. For those of you who don’t know me, they refer to me as JutPicks on Twitter. I post all my plays with brief writeups every day. Now I get to write even more with no character limit!
I pride myself on being as transparent as they come. My MLB record from last season is listed in my bio. On the year, I recorded 150 wins and 107 losses for a gain of +31 units. Without further ado, let’s dive into my favorite plays for Saturday.
Kyle Freeland (COL) Over 15.5 outs (-125)
Line available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.
Kyle Freeland is coming off his best start of the season. He threw 7 innings for the Colorado Rockies, allowed 4 hits, and 1 run. More importantly, it only took him 80 pitches to do so. Freeland is one of the best pitchers in terms of getting batters to ground out. He ranks in the top 20 with 32 ground ball outs.
We faded fellow Rockies pitcher Chad Kuhl last night and he stuck out his 5th batter on the last batter he faced. Tonight, we’re backing the lefty Freeland against the Diamondbacks who are hitting .184 and rank last in on base percentage against left-handed pitching.
Freeland has thrown 100+ pitches already this season on the road so expect Rockies manager, Bud Black, to give Freeland more of a leash especially if he’s dealing against one of the worst offenses in the league.

Carlos Hernandez (Royals) Under 3.5 Ks (-122)
Line available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.
Carlos Hernandez simply does not have it. He’s pitched 18 innings this season and recorded only 8 strikeouts. His ERA is upwards of 6 and has failed to give the Royals a quality start.
His opponent tonight will be the Baltimore Orioles. They are coming off a 4-game series against the Minnesota Twins in which they saw 4 straight right-handed starters. Other than stud Chris Archer, Baltimore surrendered only 9 strikeouts in 14 innings to the Twins’ 3 other starters.
Batlimore hovers around the middle of the majors in average, on base percentage, and slugging against right-handed pitching at home. Look for the top of the Orioles’ lineup to see Hernandez well and prevent him from going deep into tonight’s game.
