Pickswise was nice enough to give me the opportunity to write my plays up for you all. For those of you who don’t know me, they refer to me as JutPicks on Twitter. I post all my plays with brief writeups every day. Now I get to write even more with no character limit!

I pride myself on being as transparent as they come. My MLB record from last season is listed in my bio. On the year, I recorded 150 wins and 107 losses for a gain of +31 units. Without further ado, let’s dive into my favorite play for Wednesday.

Eric Fedde (WSH) over 4.5 Ks (-145)

Line available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

Eric Fedde is off to a nice start for the Washington Nationals. In both starts this season, he has allowed 2 earned runs and struck out 5 and 6 batters respectively. Even in Spring Training, Fedde pitched 9.1 innings and struck out 8 batters.

His opponent tonight will be the Arizona Diamondbacks. They are off to a 3-8 start and will presumably be at the bottom of the standings come September. From a hitters’ standpoint, they are striking out at the highest rate in baseball and hitting an abysmal .162, which is also worst in the majors.

The last 4 right-handed starters to face Arizona have all eclipsed at least 5 Ks and, more importantly, have allowed a combined 2 earned runs. Look for the Diamondbacks’ bats to continue to struggle against Fedde tonight.

Jose Berrios (TOR) under 5.5 Ks (-140)

Line available at BetMGM Sports at time of publishing.

Jose Berrios is off to rocky start this season. Berrios was traded from the Minnesota Twins last year to help the Toronto Blue Jays make a run for the World Series. In 12 games started with Toronto, Berrios had a 3.58 ERA.

Fast forward to now, and Berrios has faced 31 batters and struck out only 5. In his first start of the season, he did not make it out of the first inning. Even in Spring Training, Berrios struggled mightily. He pitched 8 innings, struck out 6 batters, and allowed 10 earned runs.

Berrios and the Jays face off against AL East rival the Boston Red Sox tonight. The Red Sox rank in the middle of the pack when it comes to strikeout rate to right-handed pitchers, but have a ton of power hitters to get to Berrios early, just like the Texas Rangers did.

Yusei Kikuchi gave the Blue Jays a solid 5 innings last night, so I expect manager Charlie Montoyo to go to their bullpen early if they have to.
